The 50th special will be feature length...

The 100th anniversary will be a holodeck simulation ;).

Which will piss fans off. "Bah, holodeck's are such a gimmick. I wish this fad would just fade away so we can go back to old-fashion 3-D." "The technology now exists to create realistic simulations of anyone, even dead people, and they still left out the original eight Doctors?" "I am so sick of the damn Daleks, it's just gotten worse since they entered the public domain."
I look forward to seeing this happen in 50 years time.

Didn't the 3D cinema trailer for Series 5 cost in the area of a million quid to make? We'll be lucky if the 50th is 90 seconds in that case.

"On the budget for 2D" is a bit misleading-- they got separate funding from the BBC's now-shuttered 3D department to cover the costs of filming in the format. I guess he means there was no extra money for the rest of the production because of the move to 3D, but then there's no reason there should have been.

If it was budgeted for an hour, there's an upper limit on how realistically "feature-length" it could be. I'm still betting on something between 70 and 75 minutes.
