The 3-faced alien

F. King Daniel

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
This guy, from the Rura Penthe deleted scene. He was smuggling star charts for Nero.

What the hell is he? He's a cool, yet incredibly gross design. The minute I saw him I thought "transporter malfunction"

Any thoughts?

I don't know who that alien is but I am disappointed he was cut. A very cool and interstingly designed alien.

Why two noses(?)?

Looks like something created in a sick surgery, not like something that would develop naturally.

Definitely!

In regards to the make-up work, why would I say "no worse" when "better than" would be more accurate?

And what does that have to do with anything? Stay on topic!

I'm curious if that's what they wanted to imply with the design.

I don't think so. For the Trek universe, he looks like he could easily have developed naturally. Most of the creatures in the universe are some variation on human form. This guy is just a bit lumpy and has his eyes and noses where they ought not to be.

He could just be a mutant, from planet Chernobyl. We get some pretty messed up mutants all over Earth - I recall seeing a two-headed pig (which probably inspired this alien, now that I think about it. IIRC it had two snouts and three eyes and seriously freaked me out) and a four-legged chicken on TV in the past, and more recently that poor six-legged Indian girl.

Neither of us was referring to the technical quality of the makeup. You were implying that having aliens look "...like something created in a sick surgery, not like something that would develop naturally." was standard procedure for past Star Trek. A point I would be interested in seeing evidence for, by the way. I was suggesting that that is a fairly common retort when something seems odd about the new film. :)

Stay on topic!
:guffaw:

But seriously, if I was off topic, I think it just that I was too easily lead astray. ;)

Anyway it seemed to me his skin is stretched in ways that seem unnatural, a bit like a burn victim actually. The over all arrangement doesn't seem as well "coordinated" as nature usually manages. I think mutation is a better bet. It looks like separate faces have been "melted" together.

Most of the aliens in Star Trek look like altered humans, rather than naturally occurring alien lifeforms- people with abnormal ears, abnormal craniums, abnormal noses, chins, lips, etc. So, yeah, I think there is a pretty well established precedent.

Now quit sucking the fun out of my jokes!

...

Thing is previous aliens looked like they could have evolved naturally, even if the similarities were unlikely. This poor guy appears to have been assembled from spare parts by an Obsidian Order torture squad.

Really how is looking like a variant of some Earth creature, dog, cat, pig, beetle, err elf... any different than being assigned some extra parts and pieces?

My complaint is, three-faces is not aesthetically pleasing. At least for me.
