    I tend to use some obscure piece of personal or family info that nobody else would possibly know, then obfuscate it with special characters.

    That doesn't really make it more secure - it just makes it harder for you to remember.

    As a Web developer, I've had clients who insisted that passwords had to have upper and lower case letters, digits, and symbols. I always bring up the XKCD comic on the subject, explaining how it's length that makes passwords hard to guess:
