The 2008/09 BCS National Championship Game

Obviously, there are an awful lot of folks who though they are college football fans don't care much about the game because of who's playing tonight. Or perhaps who is NOT playing tonight. As for my part... I'm thrilled to be watching tonight, simply because I expect a rather intense battle with obscene amounts of talent being being displayed by each team. It doesn't hurt that I don't really have any emotional attachment to either team, so I can just sit back and enjoy the show.

Oklahoma vs Florida. Laying aside any controversies about who should be playing tonight, who do you think will win and by how much? Any particular reasons why?

If anyone wants to post while watching the game, feel free to do so here as well.

Care to hazard a guess on the score? Much has been made of how the Big 12 nuclear powered offenses haven't done as well in the post season as their regular season suggests they would.

I was born and raised a Gator fan, but I haven't followed them in 8 years or so. According to this one betting website I checked the line is Okies by 4 points. So it should be a nice close game. That's why I don't usually care for college ball, it's always a one sided massacre. Besides, NFL is more glossy looking :p

You really have been out of the loop if you think it's always a one-sided massacre.

Here's a question for you all.....

Who are your Top 5 after tonight's game? Granted it depends on who wins and probably by how much as well as how well played. But which teams would you place in the Top 5 after the result of the championships game is in?

Just off the top of my head right now, I'm thinking

If Florida wins:
1.) Florida
2.) Utah
3.) Texas
4.) USC
5.) Oklahoma

If Oklahoma wins:
1.) Oklahoma
2.) Utah
3.) Texas
4.) Florida
5.) USC

I'm going with Florida 38-21. I don't think Oklahoma has played against the kind of speed they're going to see tonight (on both sides of the ball) and I don't think that they'll cope well with it.

Much of that depends on how healthy Percy Harvin is. Last I heard it was ... "90%", but who knows? It's on defense where I think the speed may make the biggest difference. There were some pretty fast offenses in the Big 12, but I'm not so sure about defenses.

So who out here predicted before the game, that two teams combined averaging 100 pts a game.... would combine for ZERO points in the first quarter of this game? :wtf:

First halves are always ugly, I'll be more surprised if it's low scoring after the second.

The announcing team really sucks, whoever is doing color is downright horrible. Worse than the Madden video games.

What is Bradford doing? It looks like he's trying, and if he does good all the rage we'll be him as the number 1 draft pick. We will kill you. Look what we did to Joey. He doesn't even exist anymore. Interception, now!

NOw this is more like it. After a scoreless 1st qtr, both teams score TDs on the first possessions of the 2nd qtr.

And now the first missed call... it sure looked like the Oklahoma dback hit the Gator receiver in the head. And this is after the officials made a crappy call on an Ohio St lineman when he hit McCoy in the shoulder.

I just had to make a tough call between watching the game or letting the DVR record the new 30 rock (the dual part of the DVR is currently recording Mom's favorite program, which we're pre-empting for football, so canceling that is out of the question). I'm counting on Hulu to pull through for me and this better be a fuckin' amazing game.

 - taking a walk on the wild side, are we?

Oklahoma is looking better than Florida tonight. Tebow has thrown as many interceptions as he did all season long. Of course one was on a bad throw.

I am even more impressed than ever with Bradford. He is so calm and cool in the pocket. Of course that Sooner OL is making life easy for him. But Bradford is dropping in some nice and accurate passes!

Good grief!!!! - Oklahoma gets turned away from inside the Florida 5 AGAIN!!!!!

I'm trying to decide what's the story here. Is it Oklahoma's defense looking MUCH better than advertised? IS it Florida's timely defensive play in the red zone? Is it ineptitude by both offenses? I know Florida has lost an important player on offense, but still.....

What's up with Oklahoma?

Two possessions in the red zone = 0 points.

That's not going to cut it.

Personally.... if Oklahoma keeps running the ball, I think they're going to win. Bradford has been pinpoint accurate, and that has helped get some critical first downs. But Chris Brown has been averaging 9 yds a carry.
