The 10 greatest songs of all-time.

Oooh, a fellow T'Pau fan

I am a T'pau fan also and could fill my top 10 easily with their stuff. But I wanted to list other artist & songs that I also really love to listen to. And it is all Triumphant's fault that I love them!! We / he spent 5 years trying to find the CD Rage before the Internet, and then the Web came along, and it was everywhere. :klingon:

My 10 favorites that I can think of right now:

Peter Gabriel - Solsbury Hill
The Alan Parsons Project - Sirius/Eye In The Sky
Charley Pride - Kiss An Angel Good Morning
Billy Joel - New York State Of Mind
Bon Jovi - It's My Life
(preferably the live version from the Concert For New York City)
Dire Straits - Money For Nothing
Kraftwerk - Autobahn
VeggieTales - Rock Monster :D
Georg Friedrich Handel - Hallelujah! (from Messiah)
Steve Jablonsky - Autobots Theme (from Transformers: The Score)

Heh. I found Rage while on a port visit to Singapore in 1988  It was by pure chance while visiting a record store.

Wow I didn't think there were any actual T'Pau fans and there's a freaking gaggle in here!

I'm not overly familiar so I'm not passing judgment, I just find it weird.

There is a relatively small but extremely dedicated fanbase for T'Pau, and Carol Decker, the lead singer. But it seems like there are more of us than you would think, because it doesn't seem to matter where I go, if the subject comes up, there's always another one aside from me and T'Prach.

I think a lot of the devotion has to do with the depth of the emotions expressed, the fact that the themes covered are relatively complex without edging over into pretentiousness, and the fact that the band was into experimenting with new or different sounds and musical genres and VERY good at making them work for them, whether that involved used blaring trumpets here, or Carol rapping there. Some of that genre blending isn't as rare, now - but this was in the late 80s.

Four albums, a ton of B-sides, and Carol's solo projects or collaborations with other artists, and out of all of that, there's very little that I don't think of as some of the best music in existence, and only one song that I actively dislike. And that isn't because it's not well done - it's because it seems a bit too slutty and makes me want to blush.

If I were going to pick the 10 Grandest Songs, it would probably go like this (in no particular order):

1. Silent Lucidity by Queensryche
2. Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden
3. China In Your Hand (album version) by T'Pau
4. Star Wars Main Title
5. Nights In White Satin by The Moody Blues
6. Stairway To Heaven by Dolly Parton (yes, Dolly Parton)
7. Synchronicity I and II by The Police (can't separate them)
8. Unforgiven I and II by Metallica (ditto)
9. My Immortal (Band Version) by Evanescence
10. Really hard to pick between Epic by Faith No More, Listen To Your Heart by Roxette, and Beautiful by Christina Aguilera. So I'm not picking, they tie. :p

NOTE: Sorry to double post. I thought someone else would have posted by the time I finished this post!

The first songs that always pop into my head are Led Zep's Kashmir and Faith No More's Epic. I could never make a full top 10 though as I don't listen to or take an interest in anywhere near enough 'popular' music. Especially not from the eras most of these songs come from.

Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd
Suite: Judy Blue Eyes - CSNY
The Joker - Steve Miller
White Sun - Doobie Brothers
Live and Let Die - Paul McCartney & Wings
To Make You Feel My Love - Bob Dylan

Reelin' in the Years - Steely Dan
Carry On - CSNY
Random Song of the Day
