Yes, yes it is.

Context

EDIT: Now with the Inception soundtrack!

What else do you find yourself laughing at despite the best efforts of your superego to the contrary? Do you feel guilty about it?

Of course it's funny - stuff like that may leave a light feeling of guilt for laughing about it, but it's a core mechanic of humour to transgress everyday boundaries of taste, political correctness and the like.

It mainly depends on how close you are to a situation and in what social context you are reacting to it.

Take this clip below for example, I'm sure it was a pretty painful experience and I sure as hell wouldn't have laughed at her in real life - but as a Youtube clip? I think it's hilarious.

I didn't. Lot of people probably were hurt.

People getting hurt is funny as hell, as long as they're not killed or permanently injured.

They played that on CNN yesterday morning, funny shit.

It's like watching Kennedy's assassination if he'd been shot by a watermelon.

Now *that* was funny! :guffaw:

^ I don't think tables and chairs are covered at the shipyard.

I disagree that people getting hurt is inherently funny, also that it becomes not funny if people die. Hopefully there's no need to illustrate the first concept, but the second:

Actually, I think it can even be appropriate to laugh at such people IRL. It all depends on context.

The proper sequence of responses, it seems to me, is as follows:

She: *shoots herself with catapult*

You: " OMG! Are you okay?"

She: "Yeah, yeah, I'm okay."

You: ":guffaw: How do you shoot yourself with a catapult?"

Pratfalls are funny. (Well, unscripted, RL pratfalls are funny) Anyone who survives a pratfall unhurt should expect to be laughed at. What's more, it's good form to laugh along: it shows you don't take yourself too seriously.

I don't find things funny were people get really badly hurt, or those videos where parents let their little ones play Scary Maze and then laugh about it when they shit their pants.

For the first video, I think I found it funny until I saw the person go face first into the column and collapse. That's when it got a bit too serious. As always, there's a line. Sometimes it's OK to laugh at others misfortune, other times, it's better to sober up and say, yeah, now it's serious.

I think that when it's funny is when the person was OK afterwards and THEY can laugh about it. Otherwise, I think it's in the category of Schadenfreude. :-/

All I could think about when watching the first video -

Should more things be bolted down on a ship?

Right. same here. For me, it was seeing a couple of people under the furniture toward the end with no way of protecting themselves. I dunno.
