that was a GOOD idea

A lot of us seem to bash Roddenberry or Berman or Braga or JJ, or this director or that director, on decisions made behind the scenes in terms or this or that...what production idea, or series idea, do you think they really got it right...this decision really was a great idea...

Perhaps even staying with TNG after a rocky start? Letting Brooks stop being a black Picard and his own character? Letting RDM go? Not keeping him?

What move, made off camera, was a good idea...and I would like one from each of the main gurus I have mentioned....did Berman get anything right in your eyes?

Rob

Berman being lucky enough to get piller after wagner bolted.

GR hiring Coon is the best idea of all time (along with him not waiting for Freiberger to be available for season 1.)

Piller's open door script policy is for the most part a good idea.

Putting Fontana in charge of TAS was probably a good idea.

Wow..I loved all of those..good ones..

Here is a small one...opting for a real musical score instead of the sythesizer one they originally wanted for KHAN...

Where's all the hate that usually follows my posts? Nobody from the Abrams forum popping in here? No challenges? no snipes?

The transporter was a good idea. We don't need to spend five mi9nutes in every episode landing the ship

Uhhh, did you bother to read the original post? It ain't that long buddy, take the 2 minutes.

I think that Berman letting Behr run DS9 was a good idea. And as much as I love what Behr did with the show, I think Berman not letting Behr have the Federation loose the Dominion war was a good idea.

Why on earth would we want to see the Federation loose the Dominion War?? :wtf:

Because Behr hates Trek.

No...he wanted to "SHAKE" up the status-quo. But then PARAMOUNT realized that some fans might have a stroke from the actual challenge put to their minds. Paramount was afraid of the lawsuits that would have come from such a development.

I wouldn't, which is why I think it was 'a good idea' that Berman didn't let it happen.

Wrong, IMO...DS9 should have let the Dominion win. It would have shaked up the status-quo. Why do you think BOBW was so great? Because it looked pretty bad there for a while. Star Trek, Berman-era, and Voyager proves this, became so mediocre and so cliche and so passe, it became BORING and the ratings suffered due to its inability to really do anything new...

18million people watched TNG in its prime...3 million at the end of Voyager. And most of this, I think, is because TREK became as predictable as the TV show FACTS OF LIFE...stale and dry.

You know I might get a warning for this, but I think you should get one too. I read the original post. The transporter WAS a production decision to expedite storytelling.

Frak you!

Less people watched Voyager than TNG or DS9 because Voyager sucked, not because the Dominion lost the war.

I think you are missing the entire point of this thread, the premise of which is that most Trek fans feel that TPTB (Berman-Braga, etc) screwed up the franchise, but that there were good decisions made. The thread is trying to hilight the individual good decisions.

I think that not letting the Dominion win the war was a good decision on the part of Berman, but thats as far as my statement goes. At no point in time did I bring Voyager into the discussion, the fact it was boring and the like has no relation what so ever to the decision of not letting the Dominion win the war on DS9.

As to your point about BOBW... sorry but you have no point. Things did get pretty bad in BOBW, but in the end our heroes won. Things got very bad in the Dominion War..... but in the end our heroes won. See what I'm getting at?

Cuz it would be fun! :D

But this would only work if Series V were a continuation of the storyline. The Feds have to win in the end, but let them suffer for seven years fighting as underdogs.

Hey it would have been better than what we got instead: ENT. :wtf:

But even then, it works only if the DS9 writers stay for Series V. Berman & Braga doing Star Trek: Resistance would have had all ENT's problems anyway.
