That Starbase 11 wall chart - noe in slide form

OK, sorry for disappearing. Heres the deal.
1) During my last move the scanner took a hit. I had it bubble-wrapped like a burrito, but something hit the box hard enough to leave a huge crack in the shell.
2) Right now, it turns on, but it's not doing any scanning. There doesn't appear to be damage to internals, and I have a hard time believeing that the crack in the case would damage the internals, but at the moment I am where I am.
3) To make matters (far) worse, I've got a grandkid in the hospital. I've been staying with him a lot, spelling my wife and stepdaughter. He seems OK, although so far no one knows what's going on with him.

That's the current status. I'm going to try to work with the scanner tomorrow and get something moiving.

Family is more important, go be with family right now.

Reminds me of what I whipped up for a prequel idea I had way back in 2001 featuring Captain April's time on the Enterprise

USS Enterprise NCC-1701, Constitution Class Starship. The newest of twelve ships in this class, with three more currently under construction. Six of the ships are Cherokee class vessels upgraded to Constitution specs. One is a Constitution prototype upgraded to the final Constitution specs. The Enterprise has a crew complement of 220. It is armed with lasers and photon torpedoes. This is it's first five year mission. Since it is twenty years prior the Kirk era, the ship may look somewhat different internally and externally, but should be identifiable as the same Enterprise from the original Star Trek series.
When the Constitution class ship design proved successful and was completed ahead of schedule Starfleet decided to upgrade the last of the Cherokee class ships still under construction to Constitution specs and modify several existing Cherokee class ships as well. A previous prototype for the Constitution class, NX 1697 was also upgraded to the final Constitution class specifications as well.

NCC 0956 USS Eagle Upgraded Cherokee Class
NCC 1017 USS Constellation Upgraded Cherokee Class
NCC 1317 USS Republic Upgraded Cherokee Class
NCC 1657 USS Potemkin Upgraded Cherokee Class
NCC 1664 USS Excalibur Upgraded Cherokee Class
NCC 1672 USS Exeter Upgraded Cherokee Class
NCC 1697 USS Essex Constitution prototype version 1.0
NCC 1700 USS Constitution Constitution prototype version 2.0
NCC 1701 USS Enterprise Constitution Class
NCC 1703 USS Hood Constitution Class
NCC 1709 USS Lexington Constitution Class
NCC 1717 USS Yorktown Constitution Class
NCC 1764 USS Defiant Constitution Class (under construction)
NCC 1831 USS Intrepid Constitution Class (in development)
NCC 1895 USS Endeavour Constitution Class (in development)

I don't recall where I got the numbers. Maybe MA mixed with other sources. But I was determined to make it all "work".
My feeling is that the immediately prior class of ship, look almost exactly like the Constitution class. May PB-29 Circumferential Lithium Energized matter/antimatter units, but unable to actually break the time barrier for long.

The point being a gradual series of changes to the technology.

Well that would certainly explain why the Constellation looks like a Constitution despite the 1017 registry, slight model kit differences notwithstanding. Or why the SNW Sombra class looks identical to the SNW Constitution class. Or why Franz Joseph’s Saladin and Hermes classes look outwardly identical.

The Constellation was described by Spock as a "starship configuration" so that could suggest all (starfleet?) starships look like the Enterprise even though they might be of different classes.
