Thanksgiving Dinner

I think Thanksgiving is awesome because I get 2 days off from my crazy job and I get to party with my family who I never get to see nowadays. Like I said since I don't eat meat or turkey, it's not about pigging out for me either! I just like to be able to relax for a couple days and be with my family~~ :)

I'm having my first thanksgiving at my house this year. I'm planning on doing mashed potatos, greenbean caserole, crescent rolls, deviled eggs...thse usual.

Except I'm smoking the bird...and instead of stuffing it, (blocks the smoke from the cavity and messes up the cook time causing the outside to be overdone before the inside is done) I'm making muffings...baking the stuffing in a muffin tray.

I want to try one of those deep fried turkeys. I don't think is likely to happen though as turkey is rarely eaten here. I haven't had one in at least 15 years.

^ My dad used to have one of those turkey fryers. The turkeys that come out of those things are some kind of delicious, but he got rid of the thing after only using it a few times. Okay, okay, there was the small matter of a garage fire (did not cause any damage or injury though) , but still. :p

You should come here then, not only are my folks making one but my neighbor is as well.

Thanksgiving is usually at my folk's or my brother's house. They do all the cooking. It probably never be at my place as my kitchen is Kosher and dairy & meat free.

Check out the channel Foodwishes on Youtube. Chef John is witty and has two easy Thanksgiving recipes up. One for biscuits with 3 ingredients and cranberry sauce that has a few extra, but is easy.

Mac and Cheese is good. Just make a cheese sauce with extra sharp cheddar and some parmesan, then bake in the oven to get gooey. When you put it in the oven, you could add some raw lobster, that will cook fully during baking and then have Lobster Mac and Cheese. You wouldn't need much lobster to make it taste good either. Maybe just one whole lobster or two tails.

Oh yeah I love that Shatner vid!

:adore:

Has Thanksgiving happened already? Can I get some PHOTOS of people's food if it hasn't or if you happened to take them?

This year, I have prepared the turkey, along with stuffing, mashed potatoes, broccoli and rice, potato salad, cranberry sauce, brown and serve rolls, and pumpkin pie. It will be myself, my parents, my brother and sister-in-law, and my niece and nephew for dinner today.

Aww, that's nice of you, J.

I've decided what I'm going to make, although it's more of a brunch item: baked egg and spinach. I got the recipe from a Food Network Magazine issue last year. The recipe is really simple, and I'll be substituting a few of the ingredients.

Tomorrow, there will be nine of us at my brother's house for dinner. Usually, he or his wife will cook the bird, make the potatoes and gravy, and make green bean casserole. The rest of us bring rolls, snacks, desserts, salads, etc. I'm bringing a homemade cheesecake this year.

I'm so tired, but not from all the eating. i just don't have as much energy as before. I got up early, did some chores, ran errands, and cooked my side dish. Then we all ate buffet style and took family photos. I'm ready for my nap now.

My family hasn't done a traditional Thanksgiving since 1987. That was the last year my mother was around to do the cookin', and she could put out a spread, too.

This year, my oldest sister came out from Dallas and my other sister cooked the food. Meat loaf, pea salad, rolls, side salad, mashed potato, and pumpkin pie.

No tellin' what next year will be...
