Thank you Paramount, Abrams for believing in Star Trek

I know this thread is a bad idea...

BUT, I've been thinking at length about how happy I am that there's a new Star Trek movie and that the studio was willing to spend over $150M making it.

I was a pretty passive Star Trek fan ever since the first season of Voyager. I then got briefly interested when Enterprise started, then that show lost me too.

I can't believe there is new life in Star Trek, that we have the privilege of debating the merits of a new film. This is an exciting time to be a Star Trek fan. Regardless of whether you like the new movie or not, perhaps we can agree that it's at least a good thing that there is a new movie.

So I'd like to thank Abrams and Paramount for believing in Star Trek and for caring about the fans. It's been a great ride, and I hope the movie does phenomenally well.

Yeah, at worst we get one last brand-new big budget blow-out of a movie that gets the band together one more time before the entire foundering franchise just sinks forever beneath the briny deep of an ocean born of Trekkie tears. ;)

At best, new Trek franchise. :techman:

Exactly.

Trek has been given its soul back, and im greatful that;
A) Its been given another chance
B) Its been given a huuuuuuge great big budget
C)Trek has a soul again
D)New set/ship/uniforms/directors and producers have been given faith and they have done the impossible... Give us our franchise back.

I mean just look at it, somehtings are awful, but most are great, i love the sets/ship/uniforms/actors etc etc, it looks fresh, new and above all...

Kick Ass.:techman:

Cheers Trek '09 dudes, cheers.

I'm glad we're getting a new movie. I don't want to get my hopes up because there are aspects of the movie that I'm not sure about, but ultimately, maybe it is time for some change. Perhaps this will make the franchise stronger in the long run.

I think there are many things to be happy and thankful about.

I actually think it is sad that Paramount pours all of this money into a franchise and the thanks they get are people screaming on the internet that their childhood has been raped only because some changes have been made.

Some trek fan deserve the crazy label that they have.

Thank you, Paramount and JJ, for giving us Badass Captain Robau, USS Apple Store, and Cupcake.

And bringing back all that other Trek stuff. :p

Right on!

Yes, I'm completely thrilled and big thanxs to JJ and whomever thought 'tent-poles' or whatever for opening the bank.

As an old Trekkie, I'm thrilled to see MY show get recharged. No bald guy. No bad TV series. I see this as revenge! :klingon: And it will be sweet revenge because the film looks fantastic!

I've read all the 'other' posts, and yea guys I get it. But this new film seems to have more to offer the more we see. I say, give it a chance. There seems no *cough* logical reason not to.

Revenge for what - for TNG reviving Star Trek and growing the audience after folks got tired of schlepping out to the mall and paying real money to watch Old Shat and the Wattle Brigade amble through the last two TOS-based movies?

This is one of those things where I wonder what really was the worst thing anybody said about the new movie...because I'm almost certain nobody really said that JJ raped their childhood....that's how all those joke threads about it go.

On topic: Yeah, it'll be great to see a big glossy expensive Star Trek movie!

I'm thankful for one thing most of all - no Berman or Braga with a fresh start, taken seriously, care and a big budget.

Ok, I'm thankful for more than one thing - but mostly no more Berman/Braga Trek.

I've been jazzed all along I'm still jazzed about the film.

Everyone I know IRL (none of whom are scifi fans) who has seen the previews has commented to me about how bad-ass this movie looks. They all want to go see it.

And that is EXACTLY what this franchise needs. New and excited fans who are not so bogged down in the past that they've forgotten that this is all supposed to be FUN.

Yes, yes, yes!! What once was dead is now alive!
BTW, perhaps you haven't read all the "Trek is dead to me now" & "Abrams killed/ruined/destroyed/F**ked-up Star Trek" & "I'll never go see this movie" posts, but I've seen more than enough to realize some people are crackpots.
