texting while driving.

Try having a water balloon at hand. Or, better yet, a maple syrup balloon. If they're busy texting while driving, they won't even see you throw it, and you'll get the satisfaction of shaking them up without the risk to your own vehicle (and, hopefully, other vehicles). And a maple syrup balloon in the summer provides merriment long afterwards.

Throwing stuff towards other cars on the road is in general a bad idea. In fact it's worse than text messaging your friends while driving.

Bad drivers really, really piss me off. If you want to risk your own life, fine, jump off a cliff. By cutting people up, using your phone, or reading the papers, you're putting everybody else on the road at risk. Even if you were driving fine, you might not see someone pull out in front of you. You're less likely to react to other people's bad driving. It's just stupid. Why take that risk?

It's a good thing that they are instituting these laws. I will admit to reading texts when I'm driving (never in town), but if something needs an immediate response, they will just have to deal with a call.
Damned straight. They should have their attention focused on driving and not anything else.

You shouldn't be driving a car. You're more dangerous than the people on their phones.
I can outdrive you and any of the other people here bitching about my cutting off people who text and use the cell phone. After almost getting clipped by inattentive drivers I got fed up and won't allow it to happen. Don't gripe at me because someone else is irresponsible. Driving is a full time activity.

I've had a carload of college kids play games with me on the Interstate while I had a trailer. The third time they were going to play "speed up" and pin me behind a truck was when I cut over and dropped that trailer right in front of them. I'm betting all four of them had skidmarks in their drawers, after which they made it a point to speed up (after I made my pass), flip me off, and then put the pedal to the floor. The other trucks with trailers were happy with what I did.

Deal with it.
:wtf:
I don't care how good you think you are at driving, this sort of shit makes you at least as dangerous as the people you are out to teach lessons to. I can't even imagine what the hell makes you think that the fact that you were nearly clipped gives you the right to nearly clip everyone else on the road who you thinks deserves it.

Being a traffic vigilante and behaving dangerously in retaliation against other dangerous people isn't going to make anything safer.

People who do this should get the death penalty. It'd clear up the highway a bit if nothing else.

I've got a friend who does it, and if he's not careful, he WILL get the death penalty--from not watching the road.

I just hope I'm not in his car when it happens.

When he's not text messaging, he on his phone, and when he's not on his phone, he's using it for it's internet connection. I swear, I don't know why we even bother getting together in person, since, in his words, "human interaction is a thing of the 20th century". Of course, he's only 25.

The younger generation and their (over)reliance on technology.........

I need more friends my own age.......

Someone employed as a trolly conductor in Boston recently caused a major trolley accident while texting. Automatic prison time should be given.

I'm glad they banned them after she caused 50 people to be hurt. Stupid bitch. Hopefully they wont cave into the union.

I've been behind and ahead of people texting. You can't work a computer and drive a car without detrimental effects. Your response time is about 5 seconds slower by being distracted.

Existing inattentive driving laws should be sufficient to cover this act. Why in this day and age everything has to have it's own special law I don't know. Such a waste of time and effort.

There4 are two reason why I never text while driving

a) I don't drive
b) I don't own a cell phone

Therefore i cannot understand why anyone would need to text while driving. Does anyone really text anything important very often? Is there anything ever in text message to urgent that one cannot wait until it is safe to send it?

A girl got on the bus the other day and she was texting while she was boarding. When it came time to pay the driver she was so engrossed in texting the driver had to ask her twice for her money. After he asked her the second time she said "wait a sec" and finished her message before paying him. She was oblivious to the people queuing behind her who she was holding up (on a cold autumn day). Lets hope this young lady never gets a driving licence.
I can say that I have indeed had "urgent" text conversations, usually having to do with work-related things. It's rare at my job that an actual phone call would be prudent, so texting is the only way to go.

What did people in your profession do before texting was available. What would you do if the cell phone reception dropped out for some reason. Are these message really urgent or could they have waited 15 minutes?

When i get a text message, i find that it's polite to respond as fast as possible. Could they be put off? Of course they could. I just have gotten into the habit of responding to texts messages when i get them. I don't actually text when i drive anymore. I used to a lot.

I say again. You text while driving you get your license taken away. Forever.

Driving is a privelige and not a right. If you're so incredibly stupid to take your eyes off the road to diddle your blackberry you're too dumb to be behind a wheel.

Dr. Phil calls this girl arrogant and self absorbed I call her a stupid cunt who needs her fingers cut off and her license taken away forever.

If you're going to be that damn smug and arrogant -look at her still!- then you don't deserve to be a part of society anymore.

It might be polite to those texting you but is it polite to those around you? The people you might hold up why you are busy texting that message? The people you are actually having a conversation with?

I think that anyone texting you should realise that you might not be in a position to text back to you straight away and should accept that. You aren't being impolite if it is dangerous or socially unacceptable to be texting at that exact moment.

This girl really boggles the mind.

If a text message is that important that it needs to responded to PULL OFF THE ROAD.

I text while I drive. I do it without looking at my phone. I've never been in an accident and I drive for a living. If I do glance down, it's for no longer than it would take to glance at the clock on the stereo to check the time. I drive better than a lot of people I know while I'm texting than they do when their attention is focused completely on the road.

Now I know people are going to say that I'm smug or irresponsible, but meh, I don't care. You've never seen me drive. It's one thing that I'll admit to being good at. Regardless of the fact that I'm a woman.

If there is any justice in this world then you will have your license permanently revoked because you are a danger on the road.

Bullshit.

Maybe you can text without looking at your phone but may I ask, WHAT IS HOLDING ON TO YOUR STEERING WHEEL!

WHERE IS THE BULK OF YOUR ATTENTION GOING TO?

Saying you drive better than most people you know while textins is noi different than saying the same thing about driving after having a couple of beers.

When you're behind the wheel it's your job to DRIVE YOUR FUCKING CAR! Not text on your phone.

Uh, my other hand. Do you always drive with two on the wheel? If you do, wow, I only know like one person who always drives with both hands.

WHERE IS THE BULK OF YOUR ATTENTION GOING TO?

The road. It's not really any different for me than just thinking of what I'm going to say to someone.

Saying you drive better than most people you know while textins is noi different than saying the same thing about driving after having a couple of beers.

You can believe whatever you want, I have confidence in myself.

I assumed he was joking about the water balloons. At least, I hope he was.

Boys and girls, I am as serious as Farrah Fawcett's anal cancer.

A maple syrup balloon on your car in the hot and humid Nebraska summer is not a funny thing. I never found out who nailed my car in a parking lot while I was at work, but my car smelled like breakfast for months.

If you cause a wreck with a liquid-filled balloon instead of your car, that is technically not vehicular homicide. Guy shoulda been paying attention to the road and not his phone. Think it over, folks. Let me know how it works.

Yes, I occasionally text while driving, I admit it is bad but so far it isn't illegal here yet, though i don't expect it to last for much longer. Such is life.

My commute to school and to work usually involves stop and go traffic, so I have read and responded to texts while creeping along Highway 4 at .5 MPH. I have my phone on one of those mounts that clips to the dash (my phone doubles as a GPS navigator), so if I am reading or typing, I'm looking at the same area and for the same amount of time as I would if I was switching a radio station. Plus, once I'm at full "cruising speed" I let texts go unanswered until I'm at a stop, and take calls using a Bluetooth headset.

Part of that is due to my lack of desire to be pulled over (both talking and texting while driving is now illegal in California) but also because I don't have a strong desire to:

A. Murder somebody
B. Possibly kill myself or at the very least destroy my still-not-paid-off vehicle.
C. Look like every other douche bag who I see "driving by Braile" with their RAZR to their ear.

As for the whole "revenge/teaching a lesson" mentality...if you start chasing after people and perpetrating your own brand of asshole maneuvers you're really no better than they are. Sometimes a good old fashioned middle finger is all that you need to get the point across.

You can believe whatever you want, I have confidence in myself.

You're putting other people's lives and safety in jeopardy due to VANITY?!

Great. So YOU are putting people's lives and safety in jeopardy because texting while driving isn't illegal.

Got news for you, bub. It IS. Because I'm sure inattentive driving will get your ass pulled over.
