Agreed. This is a woman who has a zest for life, in a sense, really exemplifying that sense of several cultures pulling together and having influences on one another that was, I think, supposed to be a part of TNG, but never quite managed to pull together properly, and while it's not hedonistic, you can honestly see that she's willing to give just about anything a shot just to see if she'd like it, since, hey, life is MEANT to be enjoyed.

If I recall correctly, Farrell was one of the last of the major actors to be cast, and had only a small amount of time to get used to the role. Some of that hesitancy may well have crept in in the first episodes. (Of course, one could reckon and indeed retcon that Curzon's flamboyant nature meant Dax was getting confused over the scientific background of the recently joined Jadzia host.

Nope, she is not.
Jadiza was one of my favorite characters on the show as well and I was shocked when Dukat killed her. I always thought that Jadiza was young enough at the start and Terry was a new enough actor that the two complimented each other as actor and character. Think she got more into the role as the years passed. A friend of mine observed that he thought Terry forced a lot of her lines as Dax...something that I didn't really notice myself. She was great on Becker.
