'Terra Nova' dinosaur series on Fox from Spielberg

Terra Nova will probably do good business with foreign licensing. I don't know that Fox needs the money up front. With Speilberg's name attached, they will no doubt put the necessary resources into it.

International co-promotions have been used by networks for spreading the risks around for risky shows - low-profile genre stuff like Defying Gravity - but Speilberg's involvement means that Terra Nova isn't in the same category.

I agree, it does seem like something that should sell well, but is an expensive show, so it really could not hurt to have some of that money up front.

sorry to go back to Primeval, when its said it went 3 series, yes it has, but its 3x22, or even 3x13 (im thinking Terra Nova will be closer to 13, than 22) so far Primeval has aired 23 episode, so by the standards of alot of US shows its only had 1 series.

Ugh, they're going to cast the boring guy from Life on Mars in the lead role! :wtf: This is just the sort of thing they shouldn't do - drag in someone from a failed series who already showed he couldn't put butts in seats.

Why does Hollywood continually drag in actors from failed series, just so the series can fail all over again!! If people wanted to watch the guy as the lead of a series, they had their chance. Sure, Speilberg and dinosaurs will grab attention, but they need a prominent actor with a current fan following, so that people will see the ads and think, "oh yeah, that guy, I gotta watch." The series will be expensive and they've gotta take advantage of every possibility to get those ratings into survival range.

They can repair the damage, however, by casting someone more eye-catching in what is probably the "other" male lead, the guy who is the leader of the expedition, the Major West rather than the Dr. Robinson role.

Josh Holloway is the right man for the job. I'd also love to see Ben Browder in that role, though his recognizability was never as strong, being the lead in a cable series rather than a prominent character on a network show, and that was some time ago. Holloway is the guy who can get the butts in seats.

After that, all they need is Michael Emerson for the Zachary Smith role. If there isn't a Zachary Smith role, they need to make one, right now! :rommie:

I agree, it does seem like something that should sell well, but is an expensive show, so it really could not hurt to have some of that money up front.
But then Fox would have to share the profits. I can't see them lining up Speilberg to do what they no doubt hope will be a kick-ass series, and then share the profits with anyone. I think they're banking on Terra Nova to be a big hit, and that means they'll want to own it 100%.

Female Lead cast

British actress Shelley Conn has landed the female lead opposite Jason O'Mara and Stephen Lang on Fox's upcoming adventure series Terra Nova.
The series will launch in fall 2011 after a preview in May.

That preview in May 2011 is very similar to how "Glee" was marketed to build buzz in 2009 for the Autumn launch.

I guess we skipped the news story about how the bad guy from Avatar is going to be the bad guy in Terra Nova. :rommie: Here's hoping that Stephen Lang's character is going to be more the Dukat style of villain rather than some boring bwahaha baddie. Maybe he won't even be a bad guy, exactly.

Interesting how this story describes Lang as the "lead" opposite O'Mara. That suggests they both are complex characters, and most likely antagonists (can't have two guys as leads who aren't at least somewhat antagonistic) but not in a straightforward and boring way.

I'm excited about Lang's casting. The guy is great. I've never seen the British actress, but she should fill the babe-quotient quite nicely! :D

I'm cautiously optimistic.
