I've been wondering about that. I figured he must have something to do with some kind of a big surprise or something because he's only been in one or two promo pics, and nothing else.

The rumors I've heard about him are:

1. He is Skynet itself
2. He is a Human/Machine Hybrid
3. He is playing the adult Tim (best friend in Terminator 2)

Then again it could be none of the above...

Matt Smith's character, posing as a Resistance soldier is the T-5000 -- a physical manifestation of Skynet made up of nanobots. When Connor and the Resistance send Reese back in time, the T-5000 reveals itself as a cloud of nano-terminators and kills everyone in the room except Connor, who he half-infects and makes a zombie nano-terminator himself; Reese watches Connor get turned into a Terminator from the inside out as he's beginning to be sent through time. This happens in the first twenty minutes.

It's kinda funny. Why do we expect plot twists in movies, and are disappointed if there are no twists? Not every movie needs to have a "I am your father" moment.

About Timby's spoiler:
There'd better be the mother of all explanations as to how the T-5000 could possibly NOT have destroyed the entire human resistance in seconds, as a 'nano-terminator' would surely do. And he's in ALL THREE Genisys films? :guffaw:

Jesus Christ, even the "positive" reviews are positive just barely!

It appears that this movie is wiping the series from existence too. The timeline of the Terminator franchise is really convoluted by this point.

I have a feeling that we will never see the other two...

^ IIRC, the main reason these Genisys movies are even being made is so the current rights holders can make as many Terminator films as they can before control reverts back to James Cameron.

And once that happens, I envision yet ANOTHER reboot...

I wouldn't count on it. Cameron hasn't had any involvement (or interest) with the series in almost twenty years and he's busy doing Avatar stuff for the next several years.

Sure the point of holding the rights is to make a profit...

Yep, 2 will be out in 2017.

They got him to write a review of Genisys and he said that this is what he sees as the way it would've gone if he were at the helm.

Sadly.

Am I alone in wishing he would ditch the Avatar crud and make another truly great Terminator movie ?

Probably. Terminator 2 was basically a miracle in how well it turned out. That well is dry and I don't blame Cameron for having absolutely no interest in trying to get any more water from it.

Do I need to watch The Sarah Conner Chronicles to understand this movie? :)

Nope, not at all.

The Sarah Connor Chronicles exist in their own separate timeline.

Genisys is in its own continuity that is going to overwrite what's come so far. Though they only follow the events of T1 and T2, ignoring T3 and T4.

The way I wish they'd wrap up all this convoluted time travel business is this: Skynet accidentally kills the person who will one day INVENT time travel.

And since Skynet's entire existence is dependent upon time travel, there will come a timeline where it never existed at all...the Future Coda ending! :techman:

^ Good idea. Though I still prefer Cameron's statement of Skynet's motivations.

In Terminator: Vault in his interview he says that Skynet has developed time travel because it wants to wipe out its own existence due to humanity's current state.
