Tennant Cybermen 2-parter theatrical release

Doctorwhovian

Fleet Captain
Fairly old news but I didn't see a thread about it: http://www.doctorwhonews.net/2014/05/cinema-cybermen-150514100008.html

A bit of an odd choice IMO, since it's not really HD (Although I think it was 'upconverted' on a recent limited edition blu set). I guess it's due mainly to the success of the one night theatrical release of "Day of the Doctor" (Which was HD and 3D) as well as to promote Tennant's bird documentary. Of course some fans dislike the story somewhat (partially due to the Cybermen/Cybusmen thing), although it does introduce "Pete's world" and is important in Rose and Mickey's arc.

There is a preview, but all it shows is Tennant saying "This ends tonight!"

So if this takes off will season nine be filled with nothing but two-parters for future cinematic releases...?

I was put off by the events page askin' fans not to bring sonic screwdrivers to a Doctor Who event.

Its like showin' Star Wars and tellin' folks to leave the lightsabers at home.

Well, the key word is "if." Day of the Doctor was an exception, not the rule. From what I can tell, these sort of theatrical screenings of TV episodes don't usually do well. I've noticed there haven't been anymore theatrical screenings of HD TNG episodes since The Best of Both Worlds last year.
