I saw both Abrams movies in the theater and truth be told I thought they were both really sub-par and way below my reasonable expectations. The first one especially, I remember being so affronted by what they were doing with Trek and I'm not even a TOS die-hard. It was just a shallow and shiny modern action movie that seemed Trek-related in name only. Into Darkness was a modest improvement, but again it was barely worth the time invested in watching, and this is coming from someone who has seen all the other films and episodes countless times. The only character I could get into was McCoy, I even like Simon Pegg but I thought his Scotty was ridiculous. I dunno, maybe I'm just stuck in the past, but I've enjoyed the recent Bond and POTA films. I'd really like to enjoy these movies one day too, especially if we're going to be getting more of them. So please, fans of these two motion-pictures, why do you think these movies are good Trek films? Why are they good films in general? I feel like I'm missing something, give me reasons why I should give 'em another shot!
