Tell Me Something Happy About Your Life

I finally collected on several thousand dollars' worth of back pay from my old company (I left in February and moved), and while I'm still unemployed, my freelance work has me looking at around $3,500 in receivables for August to go with my $2,500 in billings for July, so my formerly bleak financial situation isn't nearly as dire anymore.

I going to see Guided by Voices (my favorite obscure band) twice in October, once in Portland once in Seattle. I plan to get very, very drunk. It's kind of a tradition at their shows.

I *think* I just found a professor willing to let me work in her lab starting in the Fall. I know it doesn't sound like a big deal, but gaining research experience has been one of my biggest worries and it looks like I might have taken my first solid step.

Plus, she focuses on neuropsychology research which seems pretty awesome, so I'm definitely interested on an intellectual level as well. Hopefully this and other experiences will help me figure out if I actually want to apply to a Ph.D or Psy.D program.

I'm really glad to hear this. I hope things continue to improve for you my friend! :)

I finally got a payout from VoC. Not a large one, and it doesn't approach my out-of-pocket losses, but it relieved my concerns on how to pay this month's rent.

Well even I have some good news today. I am inching closer to a job, maybe. Today I had an assessment that mostly consisted of an interview. It was the type of interview where I had to tell long stories about my work history to make myself look good. That ranks right above having a sharp object inserted in my urethra on my list of favorite things to do. I was sure I completely bombed. But I guess I didn't because they came out and said "congratulations you passed". It is a part-time government job and dependent on available positions so even if I pass everything I am not necessarily guaranteed a job. But all I have left is a medical and background check to do. I hate to admit it, but the unemployment critics are kind of right. Being destitute is a good motivator.

Of course I got some bad news too, but that's another thread.;)

I'm grateful for your good news, RATM, but...who IS that large-appendaged lady that is your avatar?

A paper of mine is about to be published. And, most importantly, my boyfriend who is currently doing his (mandatory) service at the Navy is coming back in 12 days and staying with me for more than a week! :)

^Congrats!

I'm now on summer vacation for a month and although showering every morning-all I do is put on clean jammies

I'm excited because I dealt with my fear of dentists and finally went after years and years of avoidance. I was ready for them to tell me that half my teeth were rotting in my mouth and that it was going to cost $$$$ to fix them all. Instead, they told me I had excellent dental hygiene and no cavities! None! This has never happened to me before.

Yay! I'm glad you two will get to spend time together. :)

Today was the first day of my "retirement", at least from full-time work.

I know you have side stuff going on, but what's the general plan? Are you going to have loads of free time?

$81 richer today from taking five, 55 gallon bags of CRV plastic, one bag of aluminum cans, and 3 small boxes of glass bottles to the recycling center.
