News Tegan's Surprise Reunion

So when they show the CG wooden sailing ships in space from Enlightenment in that video, is that a work in progress? I sure hope so because, damn, the CG they did for the DVD version back in 2009(?) looked a lot better than what's featured here.

But, yeah, the storyline of this video is top stuff as always.

Wouldn't a full third story with the Mara be great? Janet reprises the "Mara-possessed version" as if she'd been playing it more than the actual Tegan! She's fantastic!

Tegan was the flight attendant, right? Back with the Doctor who came after Tom Baker in the early 80's?

Yup!

I'm amazed "Logopolis" even addresses her grieving ("I'm so sorry!") and, yeah, while the Doctor is more focused on not letting the universe disintegrate, there were some rough edges. But then there'd be the risk of being too heavyhanded with sledgehammer tactics - and the Doctor's an alien. Even the 5th Doctor, the "most human" incarnation of the Classic era, also had limits.

(The Doctor staggers out of the Tardis.)
DOCTOR: Monitor?
MONITOR: My dear Doctor.
DOCTOR: I can't thank you enough.
MONITOR: There is no need.
DOCTOR: You too, Tegan. You too. Where are the others?
TEGAN: Adric and Nyssa went to look for the Master.
DOCTOR: What? They should know better than that. There've been enough unnecessary deaths as it is.
TEGAN: What deaths?
MONITOR: The murder of innocent Logopolitans.
DOCTOR: And the murder of innocent Earth people.
TEGAN: Earth people?
DOCTOR: Yes!
TEGAN: Aunty Vanessa?!
DOCTOR: Yes. I'm so sorry, Tegan. I'm so sorry.
(Tegan moves away to cry.)
DOCTOR: The Master's already at work on Logopolis. I'm going to stop him if it's the last thing I do.

And wouldn't it be great if Snakedance had an extended edition, if the studio master for the following existed?

Yep. She was on her way to Heathrow for her first job, got a flat tire, stopped at the TARDIS to call for help, got lost, and ended up on Logopolis with the Fourth Doctor and Adric.

Tegan was never among my favorite characters, and I didn't like the Mara episodes.

Hmm, I think that's a limited pre-render where they do a trial run of the basic polygons, without the textures as texture rendering slows down the process a lot (then add lighting and even on today's home PCs it'd slow to a quarter-crawl.)

...or they just moved the f/x from the SE into the main release.

With luck, they took the original models and re-rendered with more polygons and better lighting; the teaser hinting at it. Given the delay in this release, I'm hoping it's due to additional rendering time. The quantity of ships aren't all in wide shots revealing an absurdly high number that destroys the in-universe credibility, but there are definitely more than the 1983 original. Quantity isn't everything; I'm always more worried when seeing just one Dalek, considering what they're capable of, rather than a giant fleet.

I hope they didn't use the new music, which was competently made but in a style that didn't exactly fit in with the old and standing out badly as a result. The new teaser at times almost feels in the same way that early-80s scores had. So much more effective and easier to accept than Enlightenment's SE.

Then again, despite the usual mix of film and VT, some of the film ship effects from 1983 hold up impressively well...

But I think they put more of the budget into "The Five Doctors", to do right what didn't work with the late-90s special edition. The new obelisk effect is definitely a massive improvement to the floating ice cream blop that's in the shape of something Frosty the Snowman would drop...

We did get a third story via Big Finish called The Cradle of the Snake during the older Nyssa/Tegan/Turlough adventures and I remember quite loving it.

I remember having the tween 'hots' for a couple of the Doctor's companions, along with Jenna from Blake's 7 and of course most of the female cast members of Buck Rogers and Battlestar Galactica. I vaguely remember Tegan as being kind of sexy, but girls with short hair have never really been my thing.

One thing I recall now with Tegan is that she had kind of a Sheena Easton vibe going, which was definitely a good thing.

"In another universe, we are together..." Nice callback to that Sarah Jane audio epilogue. :adore:

I guess this is also going to be the only other Collection Blu-Ray we're getting this year, as it's obviously for the Anniversary. So it's cool that they're loading it up with all that convention and studio footage.

There's a scene in Enlightenment, with Tegan wearing a period gown that's rather revealing of her cleavage. The Doctor certainly noticed her, and this scene is what may have in part fueled the subgenre of Classic Who fandom pairing Doctor #5 with Tegan to the point of marriage/having a child together.

I'll have to see if I can find a pic of that. I only watched Dr. Who from about 1981-1984 or so, and never got too much into the mythology of it. I haven't seen a single episode of the stuff from more recent years.
