Season 2, set in 1979, will serve as a prequel, with Wilson taking on the role of Lou Solverson, who was played by Keith Carradine in Season 1. Wilson’s Lou is described as “a clean cut Minnesota State Patrolman, four years back from Vietnam, where he served in the Navy. A humble and competent man, Lou is a devoted husband to his wife and father to four-year-old Molly” (aka the girl who’ll grow up to be Allison Tolman’s Season 1 breakout character).

Danson will play Hank Larsson, “the Sheriff of Rock County, Minnesota. An unflappable WWII vet who embodies a certain cowboy poetry, Hank is Lou’s father-in-law.”

Smart has been cast as Floyd Gerhardt, “the matriarch of the Gerhardt crime family. She’s stood by her husband’s side for 40 years, but now that he’s out of the picture, she thinks it’s her turn to run things.”

They already had Kirsten Dunst, Nick Offerman and Jeffrey Donovan amongst others. I'll miss Billy Bob, Martin et all but this is another great cast. I don't quite see Patrick Wilson as the young Keith Carradine but if the writing remains as good, then this is to be looked forward to.

I bought Fargo as a blind buy but have yet to get around to watching it. Heard it's fantastic.

Okay, I loved the first season. In my opinion, it was the best television show I've watched in a long, long while.

But, hearing they cast Nick Offerman? I've been cautiously optimistic about season 2 (I'm not a huge Kirsten Dunst fan), but hearing this, I think they found a way to make Fargo even better! Especially seeing how Noah Hawley was able to use Key and Peele by making them interesting characters, but still allowing them to use their comedic talents, gives me hope that we'll see Nick's comedic abilities.
