Technology of trek that exists now (and other things)

Specter

Ensign
Red Shirt
What tech exists now that is from any trek show?

i thought of this because I was mounting a small cam to my ski helmet and wanted extra protection so if the 3m tape they use to hold its mount on fails, the cam wont be lost. So I used some wire to hold it on and it looks like Bajoran head gear lol

(can we post pics here?)

Flip phones. Jet injectors (hypospray). Alexa.

And posting pictures is fine as long as they're on your own website/cloud storage account. Hot-linking to someone else's website isn't allowed.

Alexa... yes that and Siri
It does need work though... by the time ST happens, it can totally understand people and even inflections in speech and such. Right now, though, our crude version has caused some funny stuff!
I was in a hurry and dictated an email I later planned to send a customer. I was asking them to take some photos of the space where I was going to do work and if they had any wide shots of the area that might be helpful.

Siri typed wife shits. And then I hit send instead of save to draft

hahahaha

Needless to say, I never did hear back from that person. We laugh about that to this day.

I wonder if this is how Captain Archer blundered initial contact with the Klingons!

anyway I cannot figure out how to add a pic—it’s one I took myself w my phone and not on any site. Small icons here seem to lead to some ways to link to image urls but maybe I am missing something? Wanted to show the ski helmet

I thought you have to have a certain number of posts before you can post images. Maybe that's the issue?

Thanks for image posting link thing! Is that Saurian technology?

https://ibb.co/QYtnSTj

anyway this is my ski helmet and the addition of the wires are bajoran-esque in nature imo

perhaps I should make it look moreso though

and I am glad social media is not around in star trek

no texting while warping

Medical Tricorders. The military apparently use similar devices out in the field to help them diagnose medical issues, but you don't often hear about them because they aren't available for civilian use. But then you have things like this which claim to be able to detect cancer and heart attacks. https://newatlas.com/tricorder-handheld-medical-diagnostics/56486/

The commbadge, I believe is another thing that is being used in the medical industry. I've heard of nurses wearing something similar in order to better communicate and keep their hands free in case of emergency.

I didn’t see a lightning port on the back of the ship though... is it wireless? And does that work at warp? Or do you have like no power for 3 seconds?

speaking of apple and an unrelated but Ferenge trick I know...

all of you here with an iphone—likely a 7 and above...

Go to settings
Touch ID & Passcode
Or
Face ID & Passcode
Enter your password
Scroll to bottom of list of green on slider buttons and one near the very very bottom is called USB Accessories.
Turn that one on.

Now... ever had a cable that stops working? Maybe it was from a convenience store or Amazon, or at a friend’s house or work, or that cigarette lighter charger in the car... and when you first use it, it seems to work for maybe 3 weeks or a couple months or so? Then you toss it thinking, “oh well... it was only $5-10 and maybe I stepped on it or whatever” so you throw it away only to buy a new one again and again? Ever had a situation where “this device is not supported?”
Well this setting will alleviate all that. They will all work now!
Apple has made it so you need to use their cables
But with this setting now ya don’t!
And to all detractors out there... no, it won’t hurt your phone to have this. Otherwise, why would the setting be on there? It’s not like it’s some third party app! It’s a setting.

whenever your phone updates, check again. It may have gone off.
If you do visit an Apple store, turn it off cuz they may be like... oh if something is not working this is why (because a lot of software people always like to blame the customer for the one little thing they may have done or not done lol)

The fax machine, which is now obsolete, was, I think, first seen in one of the Jeffrey Hunter TOS episodes.

A lot of people always answer mobile phones. But the small phones in Trek are able to call from the planet surface to the orbit without any amplifiers or cell towers. And in TNG same is accomplished by the combadge. So they are not quite the same yet.

While not commonplace, satellite phones that are roughly the size of a TOS communicator do exist right now.

Yeah....not 100%... but during that flip phone era...it sure FELT like a communicator.

Surprised no one mentioned Bluetooth earpieces...

But with this thread, does that make my anticipated thread "How many opportunities has Star Trek marketing missed" now obsolete?
