Techno-babble one liners

Captain Proton

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
I read a lot of people referring to all the techno-babble on Voyager but it never bothered me much but for one clear example I remember is when Torres comes up with the Skeletal Lock in Scorpion. I don't know how she managed to keep a straight face when she says to Janeway, "I just came up with it"

Anybody have any favorites or least favorites?

I have a new theory. I think the writers got so fed up with fan demands to explain how technology worked in Star Trek they over did it on purpose to discourage fans from demanding how technology worked.

I think it worked.

I think in "Dark Frontier", Harry mentions something like interfere-o-metric particles, and I thought that sounds so much like a made-up term. That would be like saying "I've detected some residual residue" - you haven't really told us _what_ it is.

Janeway says, very early on, "Load the graviton beam." Just like that one! And for sheer goofiness, when the Doctor pretends to be Captain of Voyager, he says, "Tuvok, activate the photonic cannon!" Classic! -- RR

I always notice one really awkward line in "Shattered" that is spoken by Chakotay (RB seems to be especially challenged by technobabble). This line is not only technobabble, but also a very complicated concept.

When Chakotay realizes that he needs to be able to carry equipment across the shattered timelines, he asks the doctor:

"Can you replicate a chronoton-infused hypospray casing using the same principles you used to make the serum?"

It's even hard to understand when I read it!

Maybe I'm just a total geek, but I can say that without pausing.

I still like Chak. But then I like Neelix and feel they did a big disservice to his character. Neelix and Chak had so much in common (destruction of their families at the hands of an enemy) but different responses. That could've been an interesting subject to explore, besides the spiritual stuff when Neelix "died" or when he was jealous.

I so would've liked the depth of characterization we got on "DS9" to have been allowed for "Voyager." If that had happened, we would've gotten to know Ayala, the Mulaney (?) twins, the Equinox 5 as well as we knew Quark and Rom. Heck, we would've gotten to know Chak and Harry and Neelix and Tuvok, and maybe B'Ellana wouldn't have had contradictory lives (her father leaving and her leaving SF).

OOPS! Sorry for going a bit OT. Didn't mean to hijack the thread. Hope I didn't.

Beltran really had some mind-boggling dialogue in "Shattered." How about "I'm detecting an active neurogenic field. This could be the day the telepathic pitcher plant put us all into comas," - delivered with an admirably straight face.

I'm a Doctor not a battery! LOL..saw that one today...I normally hate the "Im a Doctor, not a...." but that was a good one.

I always loved the term "Heisenberg compensators".

At a convention many moons ago, Robbie McNeill jokingly referred to them as
"Eisenhower stimulators".

Classic.
