Hiya!

My first topic here.

I am wondering about everyone's writing techniques, and I am happy to share mine.

We are all different, and different things are going to work for us.

So, what gets you crankin'? What pulls you out of Writer's Block? What turns you off? What is just so weird it might work?

Me? Well...this is odd, but many times, I get ideas when I'm in bed, ready to take a snooze.

Other times--it's when I'm taking a shower, or going to the restroom.

Basically...it's when I'm in a state of relaxation, that my mind is "relaxed" enough to get my creative juices going.

Indeed. I find taking a bath incredibly good for my creativity. I love the jacuzzi. Great men get their ideas in the tub, just look at Archimedes.

*Rereads the post.*

I didn't just compare myself to one of the greatest minds in history, did I?

Jokes aside, I meditate a lot actually. Not because of my writing, but i'm sure it helps.

What if's. I love What If questions. Give me a what if to start with, and my mind goes nuts. A book that I'm writing, and hopefully going to publish eventually, started as a What If.

^I love What If questions too...and Alternate Universes and everything like that...that's where a lot of my fanfic comes from too.

I usually let the ideas swirl around in my head for a while, until finally they've become so intense and in-depth that I have no choice but to let the words flow and the story begin.

Relaxing does help me think sometimes, but it depends what I'm writing. If I'm writing something light and 'fluffy' or funny, then happy relaxation helps. But if it's more serious or emotional...I write better if I'm agitated, miserable, and a little angry. I write even better if I'm REALLY angry, sad, or miserable. But then I'm happy with my results...so I don't stay miserable for long.

How interesting! And, thanks.

I find baths help, too (although I have to be careful not to accidentally dump stuff in the drink - I tend to be in there with a pad and pen). Also, walking, with music. Right now I am writing time travel stuff and covering known time periods so I go with a soundtrack. If the time traveler goes to 1960, I am listening to Bobby Darin. If 1995, it's Green Day and the like.
