Technical Question: Downloading Stuff Through A Proxy Site

Ok if this is "piracy" then close it, not sure if this counts or not.


ANYWAY:

Friend of mine is stuck behind Sonic Wall and is using a proxy surf site to access Youtube and another site. He wants to use youtube downloader to grab things but the proxy site messes that up somehow... or is that Sonic Wall doing the blocking?

Is there a way around this?

Maybe find a different proxy site? I suspect the proxy could be prohibiting downloads to limit their bandwidth.

He's at home. He lives in a subsidized apartment complex with free net. Catch is they hauled three members of a huge child porn ring out of there a year or so ago and management decided to filter the free internet, blocking anything that might remotely be porn including Youtube and nearly every anime site he's interested in.

He works same place I do, and our internet isn't restricted nearly as bad there, but he doesn't have time during the day to sit and surf.

You can try using a VPN, but there's no good free VPNs around.
