Teaser for War of the Green Lanterns

The one thing I'm sick of in GL/GLC is the Guardians being such douchebags. You'd think after Blackest Night they would have learned their lesson. I'm guessing this is going to be yet another rebellion of some GLs against the Guardians' rule. But as long as Geoff Johns is in charge I'm on board!

The Guardians have always been depicted as being narrow minded, arrogant, and blind to things going on around them though. In fact they remind me of Krypton's High Council in that regard who seemed aloof and isolated from the people they're supposed to govern. I just hope it's going to be interesting.

Holy crap, Green Lantern stuff is pretty much dominating the DCU right now, isn't it?

At least it looks that way from someone who doesn't really follow it. But outside of Batman Inc., it seems like every other thing I hear about involves the Green Lanterns.

I believe GL outsells Superman at this point, and probably the non-Morrison Bat titles as well. I have no literal evidence to back up my claims, however ;)

It's not surprising that a concerted effort on DC's part would be to elevate Green Lantern into a prominent spotlight alongside the big three with the big movie coming down the road next summer. Geoff Johns was brought on to the book to help increase both fans and the public's awareness of the character and he has done just that, I'm proof for one thing. I stopped reading after Ron Marz left Green Lantern. After Rebirth though I've never looked back. I just love his writing and the way he has reconciled previous old continuity and fit it into modern day times if that makes sense. You may disagree with me but you still need to give him kudos for what he's done with Green Lantern and to some extent The Flash as well. His Superman run was epic and I was disappointed when he left. He brought me back into reading Superman with Last Son.

The Sinestro Corps War is actually what got me back into comic books after a ten year absence. Now, I'm obsessed with them more than I was in high school! :D

The concepts that he's introduced and plots that he has interweave together have been stunning. I'm hoping the execution for this is there though, "Blackest Night" was a little bit disappointing and I thought it had way too many tie-in books. I also like the way that Johns has expanded the Corps importance in the DCU. I believe he gave an interview when he first came on the book that he believed that if Superman was the inspiration of the DCU, Batman the brains, then the GL Corps was the heart and soul, or something like that.

Nice things to say about Geoff Johns:

His Flash run with Wally was pretty cool. It practically becomes Rogues Comics for a while, but that's not at all a bad thing.

His JSA work was great.

52 was fantastic.

Infinite Crisis is far, far better than Crisis on Infinite Earths. It's not quite good, but I have no problem with saying that it has pretty strong ideas underneath it, that I think Johns just had a hard time expressing in the confines of seven-issue miniseries that had fifty or so main characters.

He got rid of the dumb idea that Hal Jordan should be the Spectre. That he solved this with the dumb idea that Hal Jordan should be alive is regrettable, but there's that.

The Sinestro Corps War was decently awesome.

Subsequent Green Lantern stories showed imagination.

^ Why is that a problem? They have trailers now for comic books and books now as well. Welcome to the 21st century.

Heck, back when Del Rey and LucasBooks were starting their New Jedi Order novel series in 1999, they actually had Mark Hamill film a voiceover narration for a televised commercial for the first book, Vector Prime. This kind of thing's been happening for a while now.

His JSA work was great.

JSA is what's actually got me reading comics and especially the DCU. Aside from Kingdom Come, JSA was the first DC series I cared about. Am I a bad person for wishing he'd come back to it?

I never read anything with Hal as Spectre (aside from a JSA cameo), but what's so dumb about this idea?

Aside from getting a C list artist, I thought Infinite Crisis was amazing. I loved how it was the climax of 2-3 years of storytelling and how it was such a pivotal event for so many characters and teams. It truly affected every corner of the DCU in an organic way thanks to it's four pronged story lead-in. It was hugely important for Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Teen Titans (I just read this book and man it sucked after IC they got rid of all the characters in it!), the Flashes...

It was definitely the best mega crossover of the DCU. Final Crisis was a horrible misfire and Blackest Night was a great story but aside from the main series and the GL / GLC issues it was terribly superfluous.

I haven't read JSA yet aside from the trade about Black Adam taking over Khandaq but I definitely want to.

Looking at last month's sales as an example, DC's best-selling titles were:
1. Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne #5
2. Brightest Day #11
3. Brightest Day #12
4. Green Lantern #58
5. Batman and Robin #15
6. Green Lantern Corps #53
7. Justice League of America #50
8. Bruce Wayne: The Road Home: Batman and Robin #1
9. Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors #3
10. Superman #703

So yeah, Morrison's Batman and Johns's GL are pretty much tops in DC these days, with a GL tie-in even outselling the main book. The only things outside those two arenas on this list are JLA and JMS's Superman.
