TEARING IT APART

So I just watched Fury on my epic eleventy rewatch of VOY. Ii twas better than I remembered which I think is what I thought last time I watched it which probably means I had a slightly unfavourable response to it when it first aired and every time since I've been pleasantly surprised. Not remembering jack is useful with fiction.

Anyway.

PARIS: They're trying to lock on us with a tractor beam.
CHAKOTAY: Reverse thrusters. Full power.
PARIS: That could tear the hull apart.
CHAKOTAY: Then tear it apart!

Many years ago I spent soooo long trying to find where this Kirk quote came from because I knew this was homage, really good homage even though it's Chak saying it. And I never could find it and it was one of those messed it up in my head things until I realized TODAY (how old is VOY?) that it's not a Kirk quote it's a Sulu quote from one of my favorites, The Undiscovered Country.

SULU: In range?
LOJUR: Not yet, sir.
SULU: Come on. Come on!
LOJUR: She'll fly apart!
SULU: Fly her apart, then!

Sulu says this much better, much more dramatically, with more passion which is not surprising as Chak is barely able to raise himself to a little stress. Still I want to know if it IS homage. Because if you quote Kirk you are doing homage because Kirk is as a God. But if you quote Sulu (and yes, I know it is not a direct quote so please don't inform me of this fact, I typed it out myself) you might not be quoting anyone at all but channeling the great Trek subconscious.

I'm sure it was intentional. Sulu sponsored Chakotay's application to Starfleet Academy ("Tattoo") so the writers probably put that in as an easter egg. Or some kind of egg.

I did pick up on the similarity in the quotes log ago. What's more concerning is the massive damage the ship took and how they were able to fix it without a drydock. Or how no crew went flying out a multiple deck hull breach such as in ENT!

Oh, wait. This is VOY. "Magic Wand make my Voyager new again!" ;)

I always was willing to give Voyager the benefit of the doubt when it comes to repairs. They did them off screen.
Exactly. Just because we didn't see some guys standing around fixing stuff doesn't mean it didn't happen. Personally I don't need screen time taken up with shots of repairs. I can make the assumption that they were done off screen

WE were dumb. Or I was dumb. For years, and years I thought that there was exactly 7 days between every episode, unless expressly stated otherwise, so there's no frakking way they could keep on top of the clean up, if the ship set a pace like that.

It varied. Some episodes were days later, some were weeks.

The way I saw it was that between episodes, whether it was days or weeks, they were just flying in a straight line with not much going on so everyone that was able was making repairs.

I wonder if Voyager stops in space or if it continues on at warp speed while the unhappy crew members repaint the hull after each adventure.

Hull is painted with the transporter.

Like how assholes use perfume.

Spray a mist in front, and then leap through.
