I approve of this list thoroughly

Though I have to admit that in hindsight, (& apparently Spielberg agrees) I have trouble with dude in Close Encounters leaving his family fatherless while he rambles off to commune with aliens. It doesn't hold up as much as it did when I was younger

Kind of telling that in E.T. the main focus is on a fatherless family trudging along

I've always liked the upbeat alien encounter genre. Anyone remember Batteries Not Included?

Also a fan of The Abyss
