Tasha Yar continunity question

So I'm watching Redemption Part II, and a question occurred to me that I'm sure is answered somewhere. But if Yesterday's Enterprise created a new timeline, were there then two Tasha Yar's? IE, one who was captured by Romulans and bore Sela, and another who still tied that pointless death? Hence, isn't her going back in the first place then pointless?

If thsi eliminated the original Tasha Yar, shouldn't Picard not have remembered her?

In the alternate 2366, there was only alt-Tasha, since she didn't die at Vagra II. When she journeyed back to 2344, the original timeline was restored, so that timeline's Tasha once again is destined to die at Vagra.

I don't know how old 'regular' Tasha was, so I am not sure if both Tashas ever existed concurrently - original Tasha may or may not have been born in 2344 when alt-Tasha appeared. Although she probably was.
 
Tasha was born in 2337, so she would've been alive the entire time that her alternate-timeline self was living on Romulus (2344-49).

Time travel doesn't work that way in Star Trek. Multiple copies of the same character can exist in the same timeline and even interact with one another. See Firstborn (TNG), Visionary (DS9), and Star Trek '09 for a few examples.
 
For that matter, there's no reason it couldn't happen that way in real physics. If time travel were practically attainable, it would be possible to create a closed timelike curve, i.e. a single entity's worldline looping back and overlapping with its past self.
