Target XBox 360 deal

Heads up: The 60GB unit is confirmed for early August, which means the sale now is a clearance sale for old units.

The real question is whether or not the 60GB will be the Jasper revision. If so, there's absolutely no doubt that the 60GB version will be the one to get. At the very least, it makes the Elite completely redundant.
Even if they are just Falcons, there's absolutely no reason to get the 20GB version unless you have no intention of ever downloading anything ever.

Not if you want black and a 120GB.

Not true.
You can still download plenty with 20GB.

At 299.00 there is absolutely no reason to buy the arcade version.
Gawd! I wish M$ would just do away with that model.
All they did was paint themselves into a corner and limit the Devs by not adding a HD to it.

100 bucks for a different paint job and some extra space seems a bit much.
Also, 20 is pretty much not enough because you lose 8 gigs to system files/cache, which gives you 12 gigs to work with. If you download maps and stuff, that's going to be gone soon. The EndWar beta was 4 gigs. Ugh.

As evidenced by the press release, it's apparent that Microsoft has given up on increasing their marketshare by keeping the same price ($349) for the new 60GB SKU. Note that the 20GB is $299 only until it sells out, and then we'll have the tard pack at $279, the 60GB at $349 and the Elite at $449.

WTF Microsoft? Is your entire marketing division made up of morons who think people actually care more about HDD size than price? Guess what? You're dead wrong. The people who care about HDD size ALREADY OWN THE DAMN CONSOLE! For the casuals you seem to be trying to attract with stuff like Lips and the avatars, PRICE FREAKING MATTERS. I can't believe paid professionals can have their heads so far up their asses. :wtf:

18 months on, I have 10GB free on my 20GB HDD.

What you should be saying is: if you HOARD trailers, betas, demos etc, then 20GB isn't enough. If you delete the crap you dont wanna use anymore then you'll have plenty.

^
You don't even turn on your 360. :p
I already have 3 gigs worth of Rock Band songs and that's only going to get bigger when Rock Band 2 comes along, especially if the rumoured "copy RB1 songs to your HD" feature is rumoured to be true. Maybe there are things I wouldn't mind getting rid of, like map packs for old games that no one plays online anymore. But there's stuff I'm going to keep because I'm likely to play it.

Fair points :D

But if you don't give a flying fuck about shitty rhythm games*, 20gb is perfectly sufficient for most people's needs I'd wager.

Does me fine for downloading the odd dev diary, DLC for certain RPGs, etc. I have the option of upgrading if the need ever arises, so I really don't see the problem.

*Any offense caused is purely the fault of the reader.

You can pay $50 more now for the 60GB or $100 later when you decide to upgrade, because that's how much the hard drive costs separately.

So, yeah, you can upgrade... but if you like to save money...

Also, with this new install feature, hard drive space suddenly becomes a premium.

I just found out today that I've sold one of my two 360's (Yes I actually had two, it's long story involving impatience and stupidity on my part) so I'm seriously giving more thought to trading my other unit up to this new 60 GB model.

My co-worker sent me this link http://http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?Product_ID=75060 to Gamestop that's already taking pre-orders for them and the ad said they'd ship on 8/1. I didn't know they were coming that fast.

Especially with the new install feature, 60GB is a no brainer. Hell, if you plan on playing a lot of games, the Elite suddenly becomes an interesting proposition.

At the very least, the complains about the annoyingly loud optical drive will be silenced... and I'll never have to hear that whirring noise ever again. :p

That announcement just pushed me into a 360 Elite.

Not really, seeing as how it's entirely optional.

I completely agree with you that as of *now* the 60gb is a no brainer, all I'm saying is that people with the 20gb model really aren't missing out on all that much. It's still the same machine and it still runs the same software.

Well, sure. But most likely someone buying a Core or a 20 will end up spending more money in the long run.

A couple of weeks ago i bought a 2.5 inch 320GB drive for €90...
Put it in my PS3...
Works like a charm...

^ I think Rincewiend's point was that it's much cheaper to upgrade the PS3 hard drive then the 360 one.
