The structure of the console itself is actually similar to the Davies era one, though a bit more angular. Interesting that the rondels are flower pots. And the observation about "bruising" confirms that the designers conceptualize this as a living organism.
Indeed, I suppose when the TARDIS is "New", i.e. all the way back to the first Doctor, it appears much more mechanical and uniform, it is new, in shape, no pain, no experience.
But as the Doctor has used it throughout the years, it has learned a lot, is in pain, is tired, and thus reflects this in its internal design.
Kind of like it is aging. This could explain why it goes from looking very mechanical, to now more organic.
Good theory anyway.
I love the deisgn. Its gloriously random and brilliant.
The flower pots are cool though. Genius.
The thought that goes into these things are so great and imense. The bruising as the 'coral' grows. Brilliant that they have kept the 'living organism' from RTDs era.
Also, the flower pots are the same hexagonal shape as the RTD tardis. The hexagonal shape was repeated from teh roundels all the way down to the Tardis console, where it was on a hexagonal base and the console was round, essentially creating a big roundel at the centre of the Tardis console room.
The plaque is a cool little touch though. I did notice the console plaque in Eleventh Hour but couldnt make it out properly.
This Tardis however is delightfully random. Thers no set patern to its madness, just like The Doctor that this Tardis has to look after. Stairs to nowhere, at least at the moment.

I kind of miss the old TARDIS control rooms up to the Paul McGann control room in the TV movie. This new control room throws me off alittle with the type writer and drum pedal as part of the controls. The Doctor is a alien whose people were around long before humans so hopefully the TARDIS just reflects The Doctor's love of humans. It should have been something totaly alien but I guess that's been done to death primarilly by Trek. In the old days only The Doctor could control the TARDIS, now he has newbie Amy throwing switches in the second episode.
When the page first loads it almost looks like Eccleston is about to give a tour of the new TARDIS, now that'd be something.

For some reason-- after watching the clip-- I got the idea that the TARDIS as a wounded soldier. Whatever happened that closed the Time War damaged the ship, burning, scaring, wounding it, that what we see with the coral is the 'open wound' and scars as she is trying to mend and heal. But since the Timelords are no more, she just can't do it properly.
There is something Roald Dahl about the new TARDIS. It's magical, fantastical, and a wonderland in a box, which is how I've always seen it. The new interior really sells the faerie tale aspect of Moffat's view of Doctor Who.

Yeah, the new fairy tale aspect of the series is starting to turn me around on some of the things I wasn't sold on... including the Tardis interior and the Doc's costume. "Wonderland in a box" sums it up perfectly. I really liked the bit in the last ep. where Amy describes the Doc as the imaginary friend from her childhood. That just works.
It would be interesting if a future episode dealt with the "injured organism" aspect you guys were talking about.

While I'm completely sold on Matt Smith as The Doctor the new TARDIS is going to take some getting used it but overall I like the new look. I really hope we get to see more of the TARDIS as the series moves foward. Hell, maybe a TARDIS based episode once this season would rock.
