Tarantino and Abrams to Do Next Trek Movie

would he really direct it, though? it's mostly rumor, he might only get a producer and 'story by' credit.
on the other hand, I dunno who would direct it. They'd probably need someone unknown because big names directors would want to have far more influence on the story than QT would be willing to give.

No way Paramount gives one of their biggest franchises to an unknown director - just ask Roberto Orci.

Of course he would direct it.

He like the one thing he's literally better at than everyone else in the world.

my gut tells me this is edgar wright's ant-man all over again: the studio gets the people who get excited about this stuff excited (or at least debating it), then waters it down until the "auteur" is pushed out and replaced with someone a little more corporate friendly.

but that's just me being a combination pessimistic and hopeful. i love the idea of tarantino taking the reins and doing something new, but i also just want another kelvin timeline movie that's safe and easy to watch. especially in light of discovery's curse words, exploding DNA, constant flesh-ripping, and klingon-by-way-of-species tits.

I agree he would likely direct it and probably write part of the script. Since he doesn't shoot in digital, doesn't like CGI or green screens, and likes doing historical pieces, he would likely do a time-travel story.

If CBS wants one. Which, they might.

Also, Abrams didn't like CGI as much either, and usually tried to find real sets to work with, not just artificial environments.

I've got a bad feeling about this for some reason and I like Tarantino movies but I don't think he's a good fit for Star Trek at all. I hope I'm wrong for the sack of the franchise but some how I feel like I'm not. I really hope Paramount didn't just hand him a Star Trek film so they could try to boost ticket sale by saying it's a Tarantino film.

Well ultimately, that is what's happening, as bums on seats are what's needed for the continuation of the movie franchise, but if this happens he'll still have to work within some parameters that the studio sets. This will no doubt be a 150 million dollar blockbuster after all.

Star Trek is still one of Paramounts main franchises. They aren't going to totally let him loose with this, I see it as a change of direction, with potentially a world famous director attached. How can it not be a good thing?

How can it automatically be a good thing?
It depends, but surely those who know Tarantino style and are familiar with the work of the chosen writer have every reason to have doubts.

If they change direction too much they are only going to further alienate those who had loved this trek so far, and in that case better not even make it part of this trek. Start all over with a different cast.

I'm only speaking from a publicity point of view at the moment, whether QT will be a decent fit for the franchise will depend entirely on the end product, and we're several years away from seeing that. At this stage his involvement is good because it generates interest and gets people talking about trek, both fans and crucially non-fans alike. All positive in my view.

Now if he goes and screws the film up and it tanks, that's another matter...
