Tarantino and Abrams to Do Next Trek Movie

Seeing how poorly Beyond was received (not performing to expectations, even if it made money) I have a hard time believing that Paramount won't be extremely tight purse strings.

That may tie in with the rumour that they will not go with the Kelvin cast.

That'd be a big chunk of money saved right there - use Tarantino as the drawcard, and save money on the cast.

Also There are a lot of big names that want to work with Tarantino and would probably not ask for what they usually make.

I tend to think it's still the kelvin timeline because JJ is involved, and because, after all, the trek with this cast is successful and it's thus expected for the studio to make at least one more if they are still producing trek in the close future.
It's too soon for another reboot and wouldn't make sense at this point.

For what it counts, months ago Zoe said she got a call from JJ asking if she'd be available for a fourth movie (she said yes, the cast all more or less stated they'd be happy to do more).
I dunno if it is just Chris and Zachary who have a contract for a fourth movie too

How about this? I have hope, no matter what. It may not be the Trek that I want but I have hope because Star Trek is still being produced. Call me naive, stupid, head in the clouds, ostrich, whatever. I have hope that it can be done and done well.

I really don't think you are naive, or any of these words, but I wish I had your faith and optimism too.

Also, I don't know if it's related to the next movie but idw editor recently said that boldly go 18 will be the last issue of the current kelvin timeline comic series. HOWEVER, Mike Johnson reassured people on twitter that it isn't the last time they'll see the kelvin timeline characters, but he isn't allowed to reveal more for now. I think they'll probably start another comic series, but some wonder if he already knows something about future movies, and they are thus ending "boldly go" to get the time to make another series that would tie in the next movie.

While the comics aren't canon canon, I know the writer tries to make them as canon as they can and he works with people at Paramount who ensure that. He said that every story idea he has must get approved, and they knew basic narrative details about beyond in advance in order to write the story of the first issues of the new comic series accordingly.

Writer/Producer Robert Orci was the one really doing that, but he stopped his involvement with the comic about a year ago or so. Since then, the "Boldly Go" comics have been dealing with CBS Consumer Products as far as approving stuff goes.

"Boldly Go" seemed to be essentially a means to keep the current comics running in between Beyond and the next movie, but without committing too much that might have to be specifically contradicted in the next movie. But without knowing if there's even going to be a fourth Kelvin Timeline movie, "Boldly Go" was kind of in a tough spot. Now, it's possible that a decision has been made about what the next Trek movie will be awhile ago and that Johnson's new Kelvin Timeline series will reflect that. Or it may be that the new series will rewind the clock a bit and deal with the years between Into Darkness and Beyond. That's a story that could be stretched out for a very long time until a decision about the fourteenth Trek movie is finally settled, IMO.

This is shaping up to be badass. Really wondering what they will do with characters and timeline. Who could they bring in outside of the current cast? Tarantino has a stable of usuals that he involves in his projects but I wonder if they can add in more trek mythology and story lines to this one.

This is amazing news! The great Quentin Tarantino is really coming to Star Trek!!!! I couldn’t ask for much more.

Beam this moutherf***er up!!!

Wow....it's just amazing that this is actually happening.

This is gonna be huge for the franchise. I'm extremely excited!

When could we see a Tarantino Trek?
Fleming also reports that Tarantino wants to direct the project. If he does intend to direct, it would likely have to occur after he completes his next film, a story about 1969 and the Charles Manson murders, which he is in the midst of casting and is already set for release on August 9, 2019.

That makes Summer 2020 a likely target. Paramount recently announced dates for some of their other franchises. The third G.I. Joe movie is planned for March 27, 2020. And a new property, Micronauts, based on the ’70s toys, is scheduled for October 16, 2020. That leaves the ripe June/July summer blockbuster area open, which could potentially be filled by a new Trek movie.
if its summer 2020(may?) heres the films pencilled in http://www.boxofficemojo.com/schedule/?view=bydate&release=theatrical&yr=2019&p=.htm

I'm leaning towards Winter 2020 to Summer 2021. Post production and reshoots take a while, and there's promo touring. Tarantino will want to take part in that. Cranking a big movie out in a year doesn't end well.

Not entirely sure how it all works out but he'll probably be all done on 1969 (coincidental Trek year!) way before its release date. Other directors like Spielberg/Scott have managed the yearly film thing ok. Also might depend on if they going with the JJcast again or some kind of reboot (more than likely the JJ cast as JJ involved, Pine/Quinto already signed up for 4, QT is a fan of TOS so doubtful hed want to make it about other characters and to recast again would be pointless, plus the 3 films have done over $1b so even though Beyond underperformed its an established proven take on TOS Trek that makes $)

Next year QT's filming the Manson movie (working title Helter Skelter) due August 9 in the year after. So I guess if QT is directing Star Trek 14 he'll do it Fall/Winter 2019 (feels like ages away but it's actually not) for either late 2020 or early 2021.

It surprised me that they've hired Mark L Smith to write for ST14 as QT usually writes his own films! Unless that's a studio requirement and QT will do the final draft

Let me ask you a question. When you came docking in here, did you notice a sign on the front of my ship that said "Dead Pink-skin Storage"?
