While I’m a huge Tarantino fan, I don’t care one whit about his degree of “fan-ness”. That’s NOT a criterion for selecting a director.
Amen. Nicholas Meyer and Harve Bennett were also not Trek fans. Also made some of the best Trek movies ever.

Yes, Meyer had not seen a frame of Star Trek before being tapped by Bennett for TWOK. Then he had to take eight disparate drafts and assemble them to a cohesive whole. TWOK may not be my favorite film, but it blows me away with the production work.Fair point I do like JJ's Treks. And Meyer & Bennett weren't fans before? They did possibly my favourite era of Trek!
The advantage of new people is they have potentially less baggage
And yet made two of the best Trek movies ever.
Isn't Tarantino knows for movies with a lot of blood and gore? That makes me nervous. I don't want a lot of blood and gore in my Star Trek!
Two movies later she's still whining about nuSpock. I'm all for nuUhura demonstrating martial arts skills, linguistic skills, and proficiency as a communications officer. But FFS, leave her relationship woes to her off-duty hours. This is supposedly Star Trek, not a modern American sitcom.
No blood and gore, and yet:
Run that by me about the franchise not having gory scenes again?![]()
TWOK scene is more disturbing and scary though, while the Kingsman one is so over the top it is not scary—more like the over the top stuff in Shoot ‘Em Up (which I love but is not for the squeamish). Those scenes are not "blood and gore". They are super tame compared to what we see today. When I say "blood and gore", I mean this:
Chances are it'll never be made, but man, if this does happen, I hope he makes the weirdest, craziest, wildest shit imaginable.
I'm rooting for a reboot of Spock's Brain. Imagine the possibilities.
From the original interview I think Tarantino respects Star Trek or at least gave it some research and thought. I thought he was interested in an Ent C film. Which was between TOS and TNG and would therefore feature neither cast. Maybe that was just an idea off the top of his head.
I see that Patrick Stewart has said he'd be interested in a QT Star Trek film. Does he know something?

Yeah, I can't watch TWOK because of those scenes. Freaks me out to this day. Fine film, but *shudders*TWOK scene is more disturbing and scary though, while the Kingsman one is so over the top it is not scary—more like the over the top stuff in Shoot ‘Em Up (which I love but is not for the squeamish).
I really, really doubt Tarantino would take Trek in this direction.
It's be funny of Tarantino's Trek has one or no deaths at all.

Drug dealers on the Enterprise? Imagine the fandom meltdownQT sited City on the Edge of Forever (could use the legendary unmade version?)
People think of Star Trek as geeky and esoteric and Star Wars as fun and action-packed. Trek has to push back against that thinking a little in order to make a decent profit at the box office.
