taekwondo trained monkeys turn tables on master

"Taekwondo monkeys attack trainer" is quite possibly the weirdest headline I have ever seen.

It's his own damn fault...sounds like a clearcut case of animal cruelty to me. And when the animal is as smart as a monkey--well, payback's a bitch, ain't it?

Okay, this was simply a fantastic story. The guy clearly got what he deserved, and the fact that he made the monkeys 'kneel' in servitude after the incident goes to show what kind of person he is.

"Mr Hu said: "He was really furious, he made the monkeys kneel on the ground with their hands tied behind their backs to punish them and make them show remorse for their nasty attack."

I know I'm probably going to get shit from a few people, but I'm not going to pass a moral judgment on a guy that really hasn't displayed much in the line of animal cruelty. He trains monkeys to perform, there is no indication that he treats them in a "cruel" manner. For all we know he loves his little monkeys, they are most likely his entire lively-hood and he probably lives with them. They beat the crap out of him and so he tangled them up in some rope to stop them and then made them show submission? It says he "grabbed a stick to hit them" but somehow I doubt that if he'd wanted to actually hurt them he couldn't have. How aggressive could he have been if the monkeys took him out?! :guffaw: That's not necessarily cruel, it's not much different from the way people train most animals... certainly better than beating them to train them or poking them with hooks.

How many of you have owned a dog who did something bad? When you scolded them with your finger and talked in that deep voice and told them they were "BAD!", did they not put their heads down and show submission? Were you being cruel for not giving them a treat instead?

It's really common in many countries to use small primates as anything from pets to manual labour (picking nuts, and fruit for example). As long as they aren't being mistreated (as in abused) I don't see much of a problem. Is it much worse than breeding dogs the size of rats to be made up and carried around like fashion accessories in bags?

People really get hung up on the way people treat animals in other countries. I mean there is some real horror-show stuff going on in some places (hell, there's some tremendous cruelty in our own countries) but I don't think "guy who trained his monkey kung fu" deserves the same ire as "guy who drills holes in the bowels of bears to drain their bile in a slow and agonizing manner". Get some perspective. The article tells us very little really, it's short.

Awaiting backlash.

^ I actually agree with you. It's like how with a male dog you are supposed to make sure he knows "who the master is" so that way he'll obey you. Making the monkeys kneel to show submission... was just that. Nothing cruel there. And it says nothing about how he trains them, how are we to know if he treats them any worse than any of us would treat a dog when we try to teach it a few tricks?

I swear the Hitman Monkey's pictures were the first thing that sprang in my mind when I saw the title of the thread. I guess it's official: Internet ruined my mind. :(

Why is the victim of the monkey ninja wearing a Star Trek science shirt in the rank of Commander?

There a number of questions to answer here.
