Who is your favorite system lord(s)?

I like anubis & baal the best. Anubis reminds me of Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine combined. An "unkillable" nexus of dark energy. And Baal has such a great villain personality and makes a great recurring character. I like the scenes where he became brief allies with sg1.

Sokar was another bada$$ system lord. Why did they kill him off so early? He also looks a lot like Anubis (without the energy part). Was Sokar a template for Anubis with the hood and outfit and all?

I also like Osiris when she was working with Anubis. I think she's the sexiest villain. Too bad they didn't use her that much.

As for the egyptian system lords, I wasn't a big fan of Apophis. I much preferred Ra from the original movie. It was nice they brought back Ra for one scene in the episode Moebius.

So what are your thoughts on the system lords in general? Any faves?

I thought they were the best villians. Cliched and over the top.

My favorite was Apophis. You just couldn't keep that Goa'uld down.

I only liked Baal when we first met him torturing Jack. Later they turned him into a caricature of himself. Yu was good for joke making.

For hotness I have to go with Hathor and Nirrti.

My favorite is Ba'al, with Apophis a close second.

I always thought Anubis was annoying; no personality whatsoever.

Sokar was brought in to be this badass powerful system lord and really bigged up so that when Apophis defeated him, we'd realise just how powerful Apophis had become. Of course, what actually happened was they ended up making Sokar infinitely cooler than Apophis and then killed him off. A great shame. And a waste of time given that Apophis would have a major role exactly once more before they killed him off again in the Exodus two-parter. Still, at least they got David Palffy back to do Anubis. He did 'hooded Goa'uld' very well.

And I completely agree, I really liked Ra in the movie, I thought Jaye Davidson did a wonderful performance of the evil alien inside the boy, it's a shame he gave up acting before he could appear in the TV show. The guy playing 'Ra' in the background of Continuum just wasn't the same.

The way they hyped up Sokar built up lot of excitement (with the mentioning of his name in a few episodes, that holographic face on the iris and then his bio description as the Devil himself ). And when we finally get to see him in that two-parter, they kill him off right away to just to set up Apophis' rise to power. sigh. At least they made it up with Anubis as the next devilish system lord. The way they set up Anubis' entrance to the series was also very exciting. I love the takedown of the Tolians with Anubis using the knowledge of the Ancients to create a shield able to withstand the ion canons. And the Osiris scenes telling the system lords to accept Anubis helped build up lot of momentum for Anubis' entrance.

Ra was awesome in the movie. The actor portrayed him in a very godly and arrogant way. It was great seeing the masked version of Ra in Moebius 1.

And don't forget the fact that in his very first episode he blew up an Asgaurd ship and kidnapped Thor, then the next season came very close to taking out the SGC making him a guy you really don't want to underestimate

I'd have to personally rank the system lords as follows:
Ba'al-The only Goa-old to sucessfully take the fight to Earth.

Quetesh-Removing Ba'al the way she did is quite the treacherous move-and worthy of recognition.

Im actually not to big on any of the 'uber' Goa-oulds like Sokar and Anubis.They were good villians, to be sure, but there's no insight into WHY they wanted to take over everything-maybe Sokar was Ra's paper-boy back in the day, and always wanted to be the uber Goa-ould ever since.Ya know,some extra depth would have made them that much more fearsome.

Ba'al was fantastic in Abyss, then just became the comic relief bad guy, with a sarcastic sense of humour... stupid. The whole cloning of him storyline highlighted just how silly the show had gotten by then.

Osiris was EXCELLENT in the few episodes she was in, the woman who played her did very well and she was extremely menacing + the whole connection to Daniel. Terrible ending to her storyline though, then never heard from again!

Apophis was the original and best.

Anubis was a bit cliched evil without any real depth so not all that wonderful. Although some scenes were very nicely done (his interrogation of Thor in Revelations)

Niirti was a good character. And that storyline had a good pay off at the end. Yu as well, although they clearly had no idea what to do with him by the end.

All of this reminds me what a great two parter Summit and Last Stand where.

It also reminds me of just how shit the series got after Lost City.
