This episode certainly has its problems but it also has a certain "charm" to how it works and plays out. I particularly enjoy Picard's continuing showing of frustration with the dim captain of the endangered captain.

And just the way the guy plays him as mostly indifferent and incompetent during their entire interaction with him. "Captain, does anyone on your vessel know how to align the coil?"

"I dunno... I'll ask..."

Though the "electrical powers" given to the peoples of these planets was a bit silly not to mention the big fat bat of "THE MESSAGE" that hits you over the head during the "Drugs are bad, m'kay, Wesley?" speech.

Was this the one with that Tasha speech to Wesley? Hoo boy, after she got through talking I halfway expected her to pause while looking at the camera as that shooting star with the text "The more you know" flys over her head.

Fun episode. I love Picard's use of the Prime Directive in this one. :techman:

Yep. It also has one of the best explanations of the importance and meaning of PD itself in the discussion between Picard and Crusher in the turbolift.

I hated it.

Apparently, there were only what three or four of these freighters carrying cargo back and forth between the two worlds?

Having a single freighter able to carry several billion doses of a drug on each trip is quite reasonable.

But we're supposed to believe that these four small ships carried ALL the items for living to the planet supplying the drugs? The episode seemed to make that clear.

Food, clothing, shelter, and I'm sure a fair number of luxuries for what could be millions of people. All aboard a few ships?

yeah, the part with the captain in the beginning was funny.

It's an okay episode. I tend not to like PD shows in general because they tend to involve contrived, artificial drama.

Most of Star Trek, and entertainment in general, fails if you think too hard about it.

The one treat in this episode is that two of the guest actors are Merritt Butrick and Judson Scott, who are both alumni from Wrath of Khan, Butrick who played Kirk's son David, & Scott who played Khan's right hand man, Joachim

I bet Crosby waving "goodbye" to Star Trek through the closing cargo bay doors is much more prominent on the blu-fish release?
