Following the critical and financial success of the direct-to-video sequels Curse of Chucky (2013) and Cult of Chucky (2017), Child's Play creator/writer/recently director Don Mancini will be writing and showrunning a TV series sequel for NBC Universal's Syfy. MGM owns the rights to the original film, but NBC Universal produced and owns the rights to all of the sequels. The TV series will star Brad Dourif and his daughter & Curse/Cult co-star Fiona Dourif (who's fantastic in these). It will act a sequel to the acclaimed direct-to-video sequels picking up where they left off. Channel Zero creator/showrunner Nick Antosca, who previously worked with Mancini on both Channel Zero and Bryan Fuller's NBC series Hannibal, will be a writer/producer on the series.
Who'd have thought that Child's Plays 6 & 7 would be by far the best this franchise had to offer? Life is weird sometimes. This is a huge vote of confidence in both Mancini and the Child's Play franchise from NBC Universal. Child's Play just went from being a direct-to-video series (usually the death of any franchise, let alone a horror franchise) to being a TV series on one of their marquee networks. And they took one of the company's big up-and-coming talents (Channel Zero's Antosca) and made him a writer/producer on the project. These are very good signs. NBC Universal's going all in on this.
