Sybok in the Abrams Star Trek?

CobraCommander

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Hi, It just occured to me to ask the following: Was Sybok mentioned in the new film? In STV, it is mentioned that Spock knew Sybok in his childhood. Cobra

Unless he's one of the 10,000 or so Vulcan survivors and is going to show up in a future sequel, I'm guessing Sybok died along with almost everyone else on his planet. But I guess its possible he left Vulcan by 2258 to pursue his visions of Sha Ka Ree, in which case he wasn't there when the Narada attacked to begin with.

As was pointed out to me when this topic last came up ... Sybok was exiled from Vulcan for his heretical beliefs and is very likely one of the survivors.

Gene never considered it canonical, but Paramount does. And it always made some sense that Sarek married/conceived at least once before Amanda and Spock in 2229/2230.

I also assume that Abrams & Co. are going to pretend that Sybok never existed... just like any other episode/film (except TFF) did.

Sybok was the 3rd bully from the left.

To be honest I was going to say the same kind of thing, could Sybok have been one of the bullies. Since Sybok didn't believe in suppressing emotion he might have been a rebellious child and a bully trying to get emotional reactions out of others.
The bully Spock pushed into the learning alcove thingy and laid into might have been Sybok.

As Psion noted, Sybok had been exiled, so he was more than likely well away from Vulcan when the Narada arrived.

I would just rather hope he wasn't exiled by quite yet. Therefore he was on Vulcan when it was destroyed.

I was quite fond of Sybok and I think given decent writing and a decent actor to play the part he could become an interesting addition to the new movies.
Maybe Sybok is pissed at the destruction of Vulcan and blames the Federation for not protecting it when they were supposed to.
To stop Sybok Spock ends up having to kill him, something he never did in the last movie, perhaps older Spock steps in and Sybok kills older Spock leading younger Spock to make the killing.

No, I like Sybok. I'd rather he simply be alive but exiled, which is very likely.

Unfortunately that would basically be the same plot as THIS movie. :)

Definately similar but it doesn't necessarily have to go the same route and storyline and there's room for plenty of character development between Spock and Sybok. Why have one villain when you can have two? make Sybok a secondary villain.
