Sybok in Discovery

Delaware123

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
It seems that young Sybok would be a natural fit for this series, given that he is Spock's older half-brother. This would be a great opportunity to do some stunt casting. Who would you want to see recast in the role? What stories could you forsee with this character?

My vote for the new Sybok is for Adam Scott.

The guy from Star Trek V? You know that movie is not canon, right?
(Well, at least I wish it wasn't)

The Final Frontier was a trainweck of a movie for a variety of reasons but many of its ideas are interesting.

Star Trek Online made Nimbus III neat by making it "Fallout: New Vegas" planet.

There's nothing wrong with Sybok THE CHARACTER as a Vulcan religious fanatic who has absurdly powerful psychic abilities.

No idea who'd play him, but I'd love to see a Sybok prequel. Loved the character.

But I suspect they don't want to draw more attention to the absurdity of retconning in a new member of the Sarek family by reminding us of the last time they did it. So Sybok exists as much in the Discoverse as Michael Burnham does in the TOS one.

Sybok is a great character. He was definitely the best part of TFF. I think the film would have been so much better off had it it just focused on him.

Also, if the arc of Burnham's ends up being long-term, then I'd say it's a pretty good bet he'll show up. Really, I think he ties-in better thematically than Spock. He's the Vulcan who longs to be human against he human who longs to be Vulcan - as opposed to he guy in the middle who can't make up his fucking mind.

You can wish all you want, but Star Trek V is as Canon as everything else that's not a Star Trek novel or comic book.

Oddly enough The Autobiography of James T Kirk purported to render Star Trek V as non-canon.

Of course it doesn't work that way, since the film is canon and the book is not, but it's remarkable that it was permitted to have that.

Yeah, I didn't care for that much myself. If Goodman just couldn't bring himself to treat ST5 properly, he should have just skipped it.

Discovery rendered the Klingon D7 Battlecruiser design we've known for 50 years non-canon last week.

Just sayin'.
