Survivor locales

Rÿcher

Fleet Captain
Where do you think they should do future seasons of Survivor?

I keep thinking they should do it on one of the Aleutian Islands off Alaska or even one of the islands off the coast of Maine in the late fall or early spring.

Ever swim in 50°F sea water? Ever see someones lips turn blue?

Forget making them swelter in 90° heat making them eat rats. Make them shiver and make them eat raw mussels. Now that's entertainment!

They've said, and I agree, they can't do cold(er) enviroments because the health risks are far too greater (hypothermia, frost bite) if they don't have proper shelter or clothing.

Besides, then how would we see the hotties in bikinis?

;)

I'm thinking one of those little mile-long atolls in the Pacific. All reef and waste, and little shade/shelter. Let's give 'em a challenge!

I'm not sure where the next episodes should take place, but they need to watch their materials better (Yahoo is reporting set pieces for the show have been denied access to the United States by customs due to danger to the American population).

which would you rather have; some tropical illness western medicine has never heard of before or hypothermia?

I'm sure they get all kinds of vaccinations and medical checks before they are accepted into the show; also, they can recieve medical attention at any time.

Survivor Arctic is never going to happen, they'd just sit around in their shelter freezing all the time instead of swimming or lying in the sun half naked. Which one of the two makes better tv you think? ;)

For all the above reasons I don't see a cold local working out, it's fun on principal but would end up not being near as enjoyable to watch.

Vaccinations before entering a tropical locale will prevent any disease catching (to my knowledge no one on Survivor has caught or brought back an illness that was terminal or even debilitating. The worst we've seen are severe burns and tax fraud) as well as carefuly limiting who/what they're exposed to.

Hypothermia? Dangerous and can kill you.

Frostbite? Dangerous and cause you to lose extremities.

Probably the biggest concerns they have in tropical/warm locations is heat stroke/exhaustion and sunburn both of which are easily preventable/curable with quick medical care.

Besides, as said, in a cold location all they'd do is huddle by a fire shivering trying to keep warm in bulky, concealing, clothes and the challenges would be a nightmare for them to do. Hardly compelling TV compared to warmer locations offering scantly cladness.

I think at "best" we'd see a more moderate or temperate locale but they'll never go to Siberia or the Northwest Passage or anything like that.

Skip a single camp location altogether. Drop them at point A and over 39 days they have to make it on foot to point B, say 5-10 miles per day. Carry everything, challenges along the way, as members are eliminated others need to decide what to add to the shared load and what to leave behind.

Terrain can vary as they go and weather comes into play.

reward can be shortened distance, pack mule, a ride, etc..

Give them a timetable to make certain waypoints, last team there loses a member.

they would cross paths at challenges and those would remain the same.

I actually agree Blood, I think some sort of common challenge would be really cool, like a long hike or trek that they all had to complete over the course of the show.

I've said I'd like to see them drop the voting stuff all together and simply have challenges with the last person completing the challenge being the person going home. But then, that really wouldn't be Survivor now would it?

Somewhere this week, and I can't find it back, I found a blog by Propst. And he was talking about new location and made mention this would be a totally different or new way to play Survivor this next time, unlike anything before. So I'm curious if to see if this is real, or just more hype. I've heard similar comments before and it's always boiled down to the same game.

I think they do have to make some major changes, the players just know the game too well - at what point the tribes merge, what's going on, etc. They are supposed to be surprised and confused.

I agree with New Zealand. I actually think that Australia was the best location of the show. It was different, it wasn't all water, sand, and trees. It was beautiful and unique, and pretty tough for the survivors. New Zealand wouldn't be just like that, but it would be beautiful for different reasons.

^That place is incredibly creepy! It reminds me of the island from Lost. And kinda freaky how it's right in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

It would be cool to have Survivor there, but I doubt it would ever happen because the island is too small and there is an aggressive shark population.

This place would make an awesome plot for a National Treasure movie though, especially with the hidden treasure and old WWII equipment lying around.
