Survivor: Island of the Idols

JirinPanthosa

Admiral
Admiral
Season 39!

Always good after having only Big Brother all summer to have the real thing back.

There are a lot of things I was skeptical about. The change in casting director, for one. But the cast is historically diverse and mostly interesting. And the premise, to bring back Rob and Sandra as “Coaches”. But it actually worked pretty well. You can tell how much Rob enjoys being in this position.

Also, they chose a gimmick that doesn’t change the strategy of the game which is cool. I’m optimistic about this season.

I like the gimmick too. Though I can see it getting old.

Glad to see wo went home tonight too.

I have no idea who any of the players are, other than the two who are coaching the others. I don't even try to learn everyone's names until at least the first month is over.

The one who was the first one on the island is going to be quickly deemed untrustworthy since she lied about it.

So it looks like Rob and Sandra are watching the tribal councils from a hiding place?

That was a little silly. They could sit somewhere lighted and watch on a screen instead of hunched over hiding in the dark. Do they think we don't know there are cameras there? Lol

I didn’t get the point of lying either. They’ll find out soon anyway.

It will take a while to learn everyone’s names. But I’m very optimistic so far.

I enjoyed the premiere a lot.

The contestants on my "watch-list" are Elaine Stott (the weird older lady on the Lairo tribe), Elizabeth Beisel (the Olympic Swimmer on the Lairo tribe who lost her vote), and Janet Carbin (the older lady on the Vokai tribe).

I know who Elaine is because she's got the same weird kind of voice as one of the Big Brother contestants had last year. I have no idea which one Janet is.

Rob is having SO MUCH FUN being Survivor Miyagi.

Does anyone else think the idol looks like those spinning things from Gradius games?

I'll give you an answer in 4 hours. It's only 6:49 pm in my time zone.

I haven't actually noticed what the idols look like.

It's interesting that the people who go to the island don't seem to have a choice about which lesson they're supposed to learn. Why don't they get an opportunity to ask questions about some aspect of the game they think they would need help or advice with?

I was impressed that Kellie thought to hide the idol in her hair. I'm amazed that it didn't fall out or the messy bun didn't come apart. Really cool.

I can't say I'm sorry to see either of the first two players go. I listened to pre-season interviews with the contestants (Josh Wigler on RHAP) and I didn't get good vibes from either of them.

I agree that it looks like Rob is just loving this whole mentor thing. He just loves being in charge and calling the shots.

Player: Wow, I can has idol! I wonder if anyone back at camp will think I have it and want to vote me out, like they do with everyone else they think might have an idol?... Nah, I'm cool, I won't bother to play it tonight.

What an idiot.

And the part about the woman who was injured... that was bizarre. I have never seen anyone get hurt on that show and absolutely everyone just ignores them. She must have been seen to by the medical team, since she had a bandage on her hand.

Even if he felt secure in his plan he formed with the women. He wasn’t tipped off by all the women whispering to each other and not him?!

Vince knew he was a target; he was just dumb and didn't do what he should've done.

And Karishma's tribemates weren't ignoring her; she just didn't do much to try and get their attention after she couldn't get herself to medical.

So if they weren't ignoring her and she didn't get their attention and she couldn't get herself to medical, how did she get fixed up? They should have shown that part.

She clearly eventually got to medical on her own, but before that happened, she didn't do enough to get her tribemates' attention to let them know that she needed some help and then chose to blame them for "not paying attention to her".

If your tribemates don't realize that you're still in camp and you're not doing enough yourself to let them know that you are and need their help, you can't turn around and blame them for "ignoring you".

Given how suspicious they are when someone is not in camp - because they must obviously be looking for idols, right? - I think it's not unreasonable of her to think they were deliberately ignoring her.
