Survivor: Game Changers/The Amazing Race (Spring 2017)

Doubt they'd add new players mid-season but may have some kind of ghost tribe deal, or somebody may have been invited just to participate in a challenge.

Anyone catch Amazing Race? I felt it was a bit meh and again weird how Asian teams seem to frequently go home first. But the season might get better once it settles in. Cast seems okay.

I just remembered it was on, and watched it on the Canadian station's website (different one from Survivor; this one actually works... sorta).

It wasn't really fair for the second tier of teams, since they couldn't help their plane being delayed.

Do we want a new thread for Amazing Race, or just do both of them here?

I could see a new player added via a redemption island type situation. They would automatically get stuck on exile island and have to survive several challengers before being let into the regular game.

I still think Boston Rob has Sandra beat, by the way. Sandra may have technically won twice, but Boston Rob is ahead in money ($1 million of his own, $1 million from his wife in All-Stars, and $250,000 from second place on All-Stars). I count his wife's money because he managed to basically do an end-run around the rules (which would normally prevent the sharing of prizes) by proposing before the winner was announced in All-Stars.

I thought second place was $100,000.

Rob played the best season ever played, and I would agree he's a better player than Sandra. But he took four seasons to get to the level he played at his last time. He got punked by Russell in the same season Sandra rode him all the way to the finals.

I'd place Rob, Sandra, and Parvati all in the top tier of Survivor players. Plus there's a few other people who won but never got a second try who may or may not have proven themselves that same level. Brian, Earl, Chris, Kim, Stephanie, Danni, who knows if players like that given a second chance could make another run? Then of course Cochrane and Tony who played both one of the best and one of the worst games in Survivor history.

The best players of all time are the ones who can win whether or not people see them coming. Rob and Sandra have both done that.

I hope they don't add a totally new player midway. That'd be unfair to the players who had to start from the beginning.

Keep thinking of more great players who never got a second chance yet. Todd, Denise. Not to mention all the women who made it to the finals then the man standing next to them got all the credit for their strategic moves. Though I guess Aubrey is in that group and she is getting her second chance.

Stephanie only got her credit because everybody liked her 'Coach is my young girl' comment.

Rob played the best season ever played
I dunno about thaaaat. I think the best season ever played award has to go to a player that the jury *wants* to vote for, and who never was at serious risk. Rob treated Zapatera like trash; the jury didn't want to vote for anybody. So, I'd personally put Tina Wesson, Ethan Zohn, Tom Westman, Earl Cole, JT and yes, Sandra (HvV) all ahead of him. He was also the only experienced player on a tribe of newbies, which takes away from how impressed I am.

Yay, someone I really wanted gone is GONE!

It was really nice to see the person who turned up on Exile. Shame he's not actually coming back to play.

Hopefully Debbie takes his advice to heart, since he was genuinely trying to be helpful. Cochrane is 100% right - Debbie has always claimed to be expert at everything, and she's gone way past self-confidence all the way to arrogance.

Thank goodness the queen is dead. One of the most annoying things about survivor for me is the tendency to keep the horrible and crazy people around while voting out the people you actually want to watch,

I liked Sandra's game. She did the most fun stuff this season so far.

It's true Rob had an advantage that season, but Russell had the same advantage. He dominated every single tribal. I disagree they didn't want to vote for him. They respected his strategy.

Guys like Ethan played a good game, not to take away from that, but you also get the impression they needed a few key things to fall their way, more so than Rob who that season seemed like he could have won no matter what the group was, no matter how challenges turned out, no matter how tribes swapped.

She is an interesting player, but the queen stuff just drives me nuts.

I keep thinking how amazing it would be if anyone other than Debbie had gotten the one one one with Cochrane. Can you imagine the conversation between him and Aubrey?

Trying to think of other seasons where it felt like the winner would have still won no matter what happened with random draws and minor strokes of fortune. Can't think of any.

Maybe Tom, maybe Cochrane.

Winning Survivor is always a combination of skill and luck. Some more on the skil side, some more on the luck side. Rob's 4th season, in my opinion, had the smallest luck factor of all seasons.

I asked a moderator to change the thread title so we can discuss The Amazing Race here as well. The shows are on consecutive nights... it made more sense to me than starting a separate thread that would be more apt to be lost and forgotten by itself.

Does anyone have any teams they're rooting for yet? I was disappointed when the women's team got eliminated.

It makes sense to discuss them both in the same thread. A lot of the same people watch both shows and there's a lot less to say about Amazing Race than Survivor.

Not sure who I'm rooting for yet. Not a lot of teams stand out much, nobody is exceptionally bad or exceptionally likable. I guess I like Vanck & Ashton. Brooke and Scott are annoying because of Brooke's incessant negativity.

Thanks for being discreet, folks. The episode starts in about 10 minutes in my time zone. :)
