Survivor: Cambodia

Fine, I'll accept the role of "Reality show thread starter guy".

But I haven't watched The Voice in over a year so if you want a Voice thread somebody will need to start their own. :)

What do you guys think?

I think all seasons should either have all new people or all veterans. This season has all veterans, and all second timers and no winners, which is awesome because everybody starts out on equal footing.

I'm liking Spencer so far. It's interesting to see after Shirin played so badly her first season but in a different group she plays exactly the same way and dictates the first elimination. Other than Vytas who's already out and Abi-Maria nobody to root against yet. Abi-Maria is having all these Colton moments. She says her emotional outbursts lost her the first game, swears she's not going to play like that again, and immediately starts playing exactly the same way.

Have no idea who I'll end up rooting for, other than Spencer. It's interesting how the 'Old school' players were the ones looking bewildered at the elimination. And I like the idol being hidden at the challenge. It forces people to look for it in plain sight.

Vytas jumped in with his social game too early - or at least too much, too soon. Of course some guy showing off as he did would be seen not as someone trying to be friendly, but as someone trying too hard. I did think the "smarmy" comment was unwarranted, though of course I have no idea what else may have happened.

The sooner Crabby Maria goes, the better. Instead of making herself useful around camp, she spent those valuable early days whining about her bracelet and accusing Peih-gee of being a thief, when all she needed to do was just ask everyone to please look in their bags to see if they could find it.

That idol placement was fiendish! She (Kelly?) chose the right time to go for it, when everyone's attention was focused on the bamboo pole part of the challenge and nobody would have been paying attention to her. Hopefully she finds a good hiding place and keeps her mouth shut about it.

This does bring up a question of there being a similar clue near the other camp. And now that one person knows the idol could be hidden at a challenge, could she find the other tribe's idol as well even before they know they should be looking for one?

Shirin is a disaster in the making. It's great that she's a superfan, but she can't read social cues to know when to shut up.

I didn't like Spencer last time, but if his social game improves he might be okay. The person I want to win this whole thing (assuming he plays well and keeps his social game up) is Joe.

I bet that other player who told him about his teenage daughters deciding that Joe is "perfect" will face a barrage of "Dad, how could you embarrass us like that?" when he gets home.

I like Joe but the reason I'm not rooting for him is that I prefer players to advance by their strategic game and social game instead of just by winning challenges. If Joe has a better strategic game this time I'll root for him.

Spencer and Terry are two of my all time favorites. It's frustrating to see them on the same team, but on opposite sides. So far so good this season.

It seems he has been trying to step up his social game. Making hammocks is a good move, albeit unappreciated by some of the players.

I'm sorry to see Shirin go. Unfortunately, too many people have suddenly figured out that Crabby Maria would be the perfect person to take to the final two. Everybody hates her, so nobody would vote for her to win. That means we're stuck listening to her whine for the next three months.

Probst REALLY loves Varner.

Is anyone else weirded out that being nice is actually working to your advantage this season?

In Vytas' mind he was attempting to be nice and social, but all he accomplished was creeping out the women he was trying to win over. That's what I meant.

I hate to,say it, but I'm just old enough that the phrase "Survivor: Cambodia" has some kind of innate chilling connotations to me.

I had that same thought as the players were walking through the meadow.

But the same could be said of people indulging in recreational things in any part of the world that was once at war.

I'm not even sure that's what he was doing. He just remembers surviving a few extra eliminations by using his addict history to play the vulnerable card and tried to do the same thing. It was a calculated attempt to trigger female protection instincts.

Terry genuinely wanted Abi to feel better.

Okay, I must have missed something about Vytas, then.

But I have to disagree with you about Terry and Crabby Maria. Talk about smarmy and pouring it on... he told her exactly what she wanted to hear, and she believed every word of it.

I'm not a fan of people randomly winding up in minorities but it looks like almost all the people who got randomly screwed bounced back. Either they wound up on a physically dominant tribe or they stole majority loyalties.

I fell asleep about 10 minutes after the show started (not from boredom; I was really tired and the TV chair is very comfortable...).

Who got voted off this time?

Peih-Gee got voted out.

After the tribe reshuffle there were three tribes, it was her, Abi-Maria, Jeff and Woo from one side and Savage and Tasha from the other. It looked like Savage and Tasha were going to be the next voted out, but Savage warmed over Abi-Maria and Tasha created resentment towards Jeff by calling him out at the challenge for communicating with the other team.

And Jeremy got an idol.

Wow. When I saw somebody leaving on a boat in the ads I assumed it was a rules violation or something. Didn't think it was sick family from home, this has to be the second time that ever happened.

Saw the tripe swap coming. I like it. Makes the game unpredictable but also causes the real strong players to make moves.
