Survival-OS finale

Heeroyuy

Lieutenant
Any feelings about the Doctor Who OS(original series) series finale?

In a way, it anticipates the 2005-present series as we explore the domestic life of a companion. Also like the 2005 series, your typical WHO quarry is given a more 'alien' feel using CGI (Although primitive). Heck, the woman at the end is almost exactly like Jackie, even...

As for the acting, McCoy and Aldred still overact at times ("IF WE FIGHT LIKE ANIMALS WE'LL DIE LIKE ANIMALS!!!!)" but McCoy is pretty decent when he's more subdued. Speaking of subdued, Ainley's traditionally cackling master gives a better performance here than in previous appearences. No Delgado or Jacobi but not over-the-top like Simm or his previous appearences.

From what I've read, SURVIVAL was actually not intended to end the season-GHOST LIGHT was, and GL was actually filmed last. (The original order was CURSE OF FENRIC-BATTLEFIELD-SURVIVAL-GHOST LIGHT I believe-hence in FENRIC why the Doctor wears the overcoat, the brown jacket was intended to be a suprise reveal). However I think they decided that instead of the Doctor saying 'wicked' as his last word, they'd use the Doctor vs. the Master serial and add the monologue ("There are worlds out there") instead.

As far as the TV series is concerned, we never do find out what became of Ace. Book/audio/comic canon is a bit confused as to her fate, it seems, as by the time we see McCoy again in the TV movie she's nowhere in sight.

I'm not convinced of that - the 'Worlds out there' monologue was recorded on the eleventh hour on November 23rd 1989 (the day after Part One was broadcast) when they production crew realised the series wasn't coming back.

From what I gather, Ghost Light was moved to separate the two action packed stories Battlefield and Fenric and was only filmed last because (as was the norm with the McCoy era) the two 3-part stories were filmed together at the end of the season as one 6-part unit using the same crew, with one story mainly on location (Delta, Nemesis and Survival) filmed first, and the second mainly in studio (Dragonfire, Happiness and Ghost Light) filmed second.

I suspect Ghost Light was moved rather than Survival because a) it's more apt as a lull between two action-packed stories, and b) the post-production work required was less intense than that of Survival, and it would be ready to go first.

It was okay. Yet another 'Lets fuck with Aces head' episodes though. Jeez no wonder that girl was such a mess.

I think the only bit I really liked about it were the cats that could jump between worlds.

Gallifreyan strays?
