Surely something good happened to you today

Cat scratches help them NOT to scratch on furniture. Not all cats, and not all the time, but they sure do help.

I may also bring in my drill press from my garage and work on some floating cat shelves and a wall-mounted cat scratching post.

... floating? I'm assuming that means something other than what I'm thinking.

I suppose I could Google it, but I think it's more fun to just assume you've somehow mastered anti-gravity.

Yes, I've mastered control of gravity but my patent is pending. ;)

There are several ways of making what are called "floating shelves", which are shelves that don't have brackets and look like they're just stuck to the wall. Most are pretty thick (2+ inches) but I have a way to make mine really strong and be only 1-1/2-inch thick (Hmmm...a Scotty line comes to mind here).

Mine involve 2x12 lumber and 3/4-inch aluminum rods.

I took it as a reference to floating ribs... which are not linked to the central bone, aka the sternum.

Pics or it didn’t happen! (Really, would love to see. )

I hope, soon!

Really, it's just a matter of drilling a few holes (two in one side of the 2x12, one each at the end of two 3/4-inch rods (plus tap the holes), and two into my wall studs), mount, and done! Well, one thing remains...I need to create a groove in the other end of the rods for a set screw to hold the wood on or something...still working on that bit. I've got everything, the wood, aluminum rods, hanger bolts, threadserts, and set screws. Time to get working on it!

Today I drew up a scale plan of my garden plot and logged what I’ve got planted where.

I wouldn't mind a bunch of raised gardens to get rid of the grass in my front yard. My only problem is that I don't enjoy gardening. :(

On my floating shelves, it's something like this, but the metal bars are attached directly to the wall studs and not mounted on a bar:

[EDIT]

And my preliminary design for my hall closet.

I'll take it to 3d later today.

[EDIT2] The more open spaces at the top and upper right will have tambour doors (rolltop-desk-type) with pullout shelves, the vertical slots are pullout rack shelves for spray bombs, the lower, horizontal rectangles are drawers, and the bottom open bit is a swing out drawer/slot for misc stuff.

The drawers and pullout racks will also have tambour doors in front of them.

Ooooh - organization porn - sweeeet!

Back at work today after a full week off. Don't have time to be here but here I am . . .

I went out to lunch with my mom, my dad's sister, my cousin, her husband, and their son.

My cat, Sophie, used to live with my cousin's family, but she had some peeing issues there. Not with us.

It was nice seeing all of them! The last time I saw them was at my dad's funer...er...party. I wasn't able to go to my dad's sister's funeral last fall (he had three sisters, two are still with us) and I think my aunt that I saw today was upset with me because I wasn't there.

But it was a good visit and we talked a lot about cats and my dad's die-cast car collection.

I dropped off some laundry, I got some recycling and garden waste to the recycling center. The green shoots of our first crop have appeared in the propagation tray, Cress grows very quickly. I had an other idea for an alternative income stream that might just work. And, the kids went back to school today!

Finally arrived:

It's not valid for very long, is it? When we had to get one for my dad it was good for 3 or 4 years. Also, in Florida at least, they don't want you to hang the tag until you're parked. I guess that's so it doesn't get in your field of view when you're driving.
I'm glad you finally got it.

Speaking of cars, I had an incredibly intense dream in which I owned a particular model of car. It was a fun dream but also kind of useful as I think it's definitely made me decide to buy it, I was in two minds before, but I figure this is good evidence concerning what my subconscious really wants.

I hope my foot will heal before October, but this was only meant to be a temporary placard. The more "permanent" placards in Minnesota are blue (maybe every state?) and these temp ones are red (apparently!). I'm sure this is to alert the police that these are more likely to be expired so they will be more likely to check their dates.

And yes, you're supposed to remove it from your mirror while driving, but I see sooooo many people driving around with them hanging in the middle of their views! Just asking for an accident.

Now, if only I'll be allowed to park in a damned handicap spot that doesn't have a delivery truck, someone adjusting their trailer load, or someone that shouldn't be parked in it! :censored:

I did mention that the last time I went to use one that a Pepsi delivery truck was parked in it that the driver looked at me parked next to his truck like *I* was in *his* way, right?

We were advised to hide ours out of view when not parked as they are often stolen. There is a small fee to replace them; it gets larger with each subsequent replacement for the blue ones in the five year term. I hope you’ll be back on your feet quickly!
