Surely something good happened to you today

I've tried CPAP twice for my sleep apnea, and I just can't tolerate it. There's no way I'm falling asleep with something strapped to my face. However, the sleep apnea doesn't seem to be a major issue. I'm getting plenty of sleep and I don't feel tired or fatigued during the day. If I stop breathing and die in the middle of the night, I'll deal with that when it happens.
Last year, I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. In January, the doctor prescribed me Tirzepatide under the name Mounjaro, to lower my A1C. It is also sold as a weight loss drug, Zepbound. Tirzepatide reduces your appetite, lowers your blood pressure and stops moderate to severe sleep apnea. The reduction in appetite, along with regular exercise, causes weight loss.

Before I started taking Mounjaro, the doctor kept trying to have me get checked to see if I needed a CPAP. Now I don't have to worry about it. There are some rare bad side effects to Tirzepatide, but I haven't experienced any of them in the 11 months I've been taking it.

Sleep apnea isn't likely to suddenly kill you. It's the long-term lack of oxygen you could experience during the night which leads to possible brain damage, heart problems, etc.

I couldn't tolerate the CPAP at first, but it got better as the months went on...BUT I developed contact- dermatitis: the mask caused my skin to react. I had a horrible rash that damaged the skin on my entire face. It lasted 5-6 months after I stopped using it. But my skin was permanently damaged and I now look 20 years older.

I have learned to sleep on my side but still have some trouble sleeping. I'll spend 8 hours in bed and get maybe 6/6.5 hours of sleep .

When I got diagnosed five years ago, I'd done an overnight sleep study at one of the local hospitals. Blood oxygen levels were at a "floor" level that the specialists don't like to see, and the sensors were recording 50+ events/hour. As for what got me asking for the sleep study testing in the first place? A year earlier, I was nodding off during team meetings during a day job contract, and I was warned by my immediate supervisor that I could be fired for cause as a consequence.

Enrolling for my medical insurance coverage for work right now, and for the first time since I started working almost 30 years ago... my cost will be DOWN. This has never happened (in any of the jobs I have had). My wife's insurance cost through her job will also be down (she works for a different company and an entirely different industry).

Between that, the gas prices dropping quite a bit (prices at the beginning of the year used to waffle between $3.39 - $3.79 a gallon, now it's been $2.69 - $2.89 consistently), and some grocery items dropping in price, our wallets have been able to breathe more.

Yes, it's a Happy Halloween indeed!

I saved myself a $300 repair on my washer today. Last week, the stupid switch that keeps the lid locked while the wash is spinning broke. A couple of places listed the replacement part at $180 but I was able to find one on amazon for $20.

After several setbacks, I finally got the new part installed and a couple loads finished. :techman:

Finally good news! I just got called by the tutoring center. They still want to give me a job--as a supervisor/operations manager. Will only make about 50 cents more per hour but I'll work Monday thru Friday, instead of the random hours I have now. Even better, I don't have to stand for 4 hours straight. Yay! Now I have to give my notice at the store tomorrow.

Got to walk by the canal in the sun today.
The squirrels are very quarrelsome - one got knocked out of a tree and there was plenty of chasing off going on. Presumably food is getting short which is a bit worrying this early.
The kingfisher (Alcedo atthis) was flying along the canal. I've probably mentioned this before but it flies flat along the canal then stops in a bush for a bit so you get the brilliant blue/green flashing along, and also get to look at the reddy brown front when it stops. No fishing today.
I've only ever see a wren (Troglodytes troglodytes) once but there were 3 in a bush feeding on the berries
Finally, there were several goldfinches (Carduelis carduelis) in a bush.

Now at home with my once-a-week pot of coffee listening to a CD of "Fascinating Aida"

Today is a good day to live
