Supporting Trek Authors

Hi all,

A question concerning where one should buy their Trek ebooks from, to best support the authors.

What I mean to say is, I want to buy a bunch more ebooks but want the authors to get the most mulah out of it, not the middlemen or whoever is in their pockets nowadays.

I've devoured over 20 star trek ebooks in the last 5 months...all post Article of the Federation in the timeline... I want to buy a bunch more, but then this question came to me. I've been purchasing via my Kobo device.

Let me know your thoughts, thank you,
Kevin

Woah, so it's as simple as that, eh?

I signed up with simon and schuster, thinking it would be better buying directly from them.

Thanks for the reply David! I truly love your stuff.

Yeah, we get the same royalty credit, regardless of what retailer you buy it from, as long as you're buying new copies, not used or remaindered.

Don't some authors supply copies themselves and autograph them ? I'd have thought they'd have got the full cover price that way rather than just a percentage.

Direct support for the author and a nicer 'item' for the purchaser. Seems to be a 'win-win' !

Most of us don't have the time or resources to manage an operation like that, and the volume of orders is far smaller than you might expect. I would rather spend my time writing new books than dealing with order fulfillment on past titles.

That would only work if they opted to sell the meagre box of freebies they are sent by the publisher just before the first edition of a book comes out in stores. I would assume that supply would mainly be used to thank beta readers, relatives and close supporters, online competition winners, etc.

Authors can order more (such as to sell on their signing table at a convention), but those additional copies would not be free, so getting "full cover price" would not work. ;)

I've honestly heard of people getting their e-readers signed by authors before, for what it's worth. :D

I've often wondered if I printed out the covers of e-books that I have, if the authors would be willing to sign that?

All i know is i have to go in and pre order my books at the only book store left in my area 2 towns over.
and then pre order them as they come up on my apple store so i can keep my ebooks up to date as i have gone thro over the years and got a full back catalog of the books in ebook form as the earlier the book the harder to find in Australia at a good price. and also i can not get the Mission gamma or the following 4 or 5 book from DS9 to destiny in paperback here at all why no idea just can't get them ordered in so...
I love that no mater where i go the author is still seeing the money as i what them to do well so they can keep working and writing star trek for me to enjoy so woot.

Now I know! thanks for the feedback given on this thread.

I'll sign most anything beside a blank check--and be flattered to be asked.

Seriously, I can't imagine most authors having a problem with that. I've signed hardcovers, paperbacks, posters, postcards, convention program books . . . you name it.
