Here we go, folks. Tonight's the start of the big reveals storyline wise. Castiel and Uriel are back. Hildy from Mad Men guest stars. If you live anywhere but New York, you're lucky. If you're in New York City, you're preempted for sports. Good old CW. At least Grey's Anatomy is in the same shape. Boston is preempting its ABC affiliate for the Jets/Patriots game, too. When is the last time that happened? :wtf:

Time to find out what happened to Sam. The more insane of the fandom may implode. It should be fun to lurk at TWOP. Next week is supposed to be even better. TV Guide has it on the "can't miss" meter. We shall see.

EDIT--If you're in NYC and you have digital cable, I hear you can pick up a CW station on the high end of the channels, channel 284 or 274 maybe, from another city's markets. Hopefully you'll have some luck. If not, it airs Saturday in your area. If it aired later tonight, it would still have a chance not to be devastated ratings wise by the preemption. The fast nationals will be real inflated by the game, then the finals will drop. Eh, what can you do? Gossip Girl, 90210, and One Tree Hill were all hit by preemptions this week and dropped into the 2 millions on final ratings. I'll bet SPN will stay in the 3 millions. It just sucks that such a great ep will be preempted in the biggest market in the country. :scream:

I can't wait, though I am also one of those who is fearing how far they take Sam during those months. KNowing what spoilers I do, I am very very curious how they handle things.

I also can't wait for next week.

and then the endless seeming two months between new episodes. Fun.

Oh dear God, the TWOP girls will be officially insane off the charts after this business, but you'll be happy a bit, mswood. My God, but Jared Padalecki is a fine male specimen. He eclipses Jensen on the sexiness scale IMO. Great, great episode but cripes whoever cast Genevieve Cortese blew it. She's a terrible actress. The middle girl who was Ruby tonight before Ruby grabbed her present body was great--why didn't they hire her? Anybody would be preferable. The girl who played Casey last season would have made a great Ruby. Say she had a twin sister. Shows do it all the time. Hey, the fat black maid was pretty cool.

I guess Sam's a necrophiliac instead of a rapist. Ewwww.....

Oh dear, I can't resist temptation. I know they'll be going stark raving lunatic nuts, but I must check TWOP. Hell, I wasn't offended by the sex with a demon at all. They made it pretty clear she was an empty shell whose spirit had passed on. Quite frankly, I'd have found it preferable if Sam had been dead drunk and had sex without asking about the body. Don't pussyfoot around if the man's going darkside. Genevieve is so bland. You'll see what I mean when you see the middle girl who plays Ruby and the fat and sassy black maid who plays Ruby at the end. Genevieve must work cheaper than any actress in Vancouver. She's terrible. I'm disappointed that the sex wasn't offensive enough.

ANd TWOP is not so pleased, by tonight's events... to say the least. Makes me wonder what they thought of ANgel and Buffy (Corpse with a soul but still a corpse), or Buffy and Spike (no Soul) because Demon and corpse. I think many might be acting just a little hypocritical.

Actually, they're not as offended as I thought. Some of them are going insane, predictably, but some of them are like me. They thought Ruby and Sam sex was boring because Genevieve Cortese is boring. Wait until you see it, mswood. There's a tall blond who plays Ruby before Genevievie, and a black girl who plays her near the end. They were both so much better than her. Dammit, she took me out of the episode. I sure hope Ruby has an ulterior motive, because if she doesn't I never want to see Genevieve Cortese again. I'm serious. I've liked all the previous episodes this season, but this one I can only give a "C." I hate giving C's. But, it proves I'm not a total cheerleader. It's a shame, because Julie McNiven was adorable as Anna, and Alistair had the best line of the night when Dean was trying to stab him:

You don't recognize me? Oh, I forgot. I'm wearing a pediatrician. :guffaw::guffaw:

You know, you're right about the Buffy issue. Buffy was a necrophiliac every time she slept with Spike or Angel.

SUpernatural has only really done two other two part episodes. 1st seasons Salvation and Devil's Trap and 2nd seasons All Hells breaks loose. I think this one fits in about mid point between them.

Unlike Salvation, almost everything in this episode is either setup or flashback. As such it feels like the narrative doesn't reach a full conclusion. And unlike All Hell breaks loose it doesn't feature a fantastic emotionally charged scene (few pass those two boys individual death scenes).

Story points, al the pieces are fine, I have no problem with any of it. While I wish we could actually get more about what happened during those times, I understand the business and creative choice that would make that impossible.

Performance wise Alilstar does great work (who would have thought the guy in TNG Eye of the beholder could actually act) but as the years went by and I saw far more of his work, Rolston does do good work. Castiel and Uriel (especially Uriel) manage to still impress with their small parts. Then we have JAred who for the first time truly gets the spot light, and he does do a strong job here.

Then we have Ruby and her three actress who played her. I absolutely agree for the small part the secretary did the closest what we had seen of Ruby in the third season. I wasn't impressed with the maid, at all. Then we have Cortese. And I think this was her best work on teh show (there were even a couple of seconds where I felt she was getting closer to what I expect out of the character performance wise (When the knife was lost, flashbacks to the colt), and her confrontation with Sam over what Dean would want. But while I think she did do better, she still is easily the weak link performance wise. It still feels like an almost completely different character. And in an episode that for the first time really features the actress that does hurt the episode.

I also thought Dean's uncomfortable humor over the knowledge of Ruby and Sam having sex was a bit out of character. Really should have gone more for utterly disgusted, before bringing it back down in my opinion. But instead is played more for laughs.

I also what to talk about the editing and the direction. I don't know if its because this is the setup episode or if was a choice, but the direction seemed a little slower then usual. The camera work really didn't sell my on the urgency of the episode, or the chaotic mess of Sam's flashbacks as much as I felt they should.

NOw it is possible that Ruby has been completely and totally honest with Sam. That she is truly doing good with no hidden agenda. And that kind of makes sense to be able to have one demon (out of all the major demon players reflect a different take), just as we apparently have seen two angels that seem to have different feelings on many things. But personally I really hope that this isn't the case for two reasons.

1. Currently this actress doesn't bring much to the role, and I need to care about a character to believe this against type behavior.

2. Katie brought and intensity and menace that screamed to me, I have a hidden agenda. That I am only doing this to get what I need from you. And since she started the character all growth needs to start from there. And I still don't see it.

Last year they had Lauren (A good actress in my opinion) that was saddled with behavior (both hers and how Sam and Dean reacted to her) that really made me not give a rats ass about her. This time, the material for the character is there, the guys are behaving in a way I can believe, but she doesn't bring it t the role.

Certainly there has to be an actress that has an edge, that one they can afford, and that is available for period guest roles.

And I pray that sooner then later, the producers find her.

Oh on to a letter grade a B-, easily would have been a B with a better actress.

I thought the Ruby actress was OK, it's just I've never been able to buy anyone else as actually being Ruby.

Not bad, good to see all the threads coming together, one of those episodes that you can appreciate more if you've been watching the series all along than if you were to watch it cold.

I think thats the main problem with that choice for an actress, I don't think she has ever played "Ruby". And as such she feels like a completely different character. While I did think she was closer here, I don't think she's got it.

I am really curious how next episode will start, I just can't se them letting her continue (Especially Uriel)

I got banned from TWOP again in my new incarnation. I hadn't posted for months. :guffaw: I said "you [a generic you] can't call Sam a necrophiliac and then watch and praise Buffy." I was banned for boards on boards and telling other posters how to post. :guffaw: I can't say a damn word without being banned. Seriously, what the hell? :wtf:

Mswood, I wish it were a matter of GC making Ruby seem "almost" different. Maybe I'll feel differently on a rewatch, but the girl is taking me out of the story big time. Jared looked scrumptious otherwise. Anna didn't take me out of the story. I thought she was adorable.

Castiel and Uriel found our intrepid group. They want to take Anna with them. Basically, Castiel said she's gotta die. Oh, and Ruby was still boring. Uriel called her a "stain." That was classic. :guffaw: I feel bad for piling on poor Genevieve Cortese, but the two other Rubys in this ep really show how much she sucked. So did Julie McNiven's Anna.

It didn't take me 5 minutes of browsing the TWOP forums to see that place is way to uptight and sanctimonious for my tastes.

Not only was I banned, Barnes pinned up a note in the episode comments thread about not telling others "what to do" nice and fresh. I am still stunned that a perfectly innocuous observation could get me banned. I was perfectly polite with it. That's all I said. Barnes is all on about starting wars between fans or some such crapola. Nobody would have batted a single eyelash at the comment here in this forum....or in any other. I've already had some people there e-mail me saying they can't believe Barnes banned me for that. I'm not even the one who brought up Buffy. Someone else did, because she slept with a dead body, too, every time she banged a vampire. It was a legitimate comparison.

Even Don Williams at BuddyTv wrote a column slamming TWOP because Jim Beaver visited the site and was taken aback by all the anti-Bobby comments there (he's a crutch that takes away from the boys doing research, you see). Beaver was pissed enough to post about it on his myspace page. That's the actor who plays Bobby, folks. If Barnes goes on banning everyone, no wonder the level of discourse there has deteriorated so much.

EDIT--OUCH! Finals are in. The preemption in the number one market in the country (plus parts of New Jersey) cost us one million viewers from fast nationals to finals. 3.91 million down to 2.944 million. Still--it beat Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, and 90210 in finals. Smallville lost about 800,000 viewers to go down to 3.556 million. No wonder the local CW affiliates sell out to the NFL network. Next week we're only preempted in Pittsburgh. It's a much smaller market.

Way to take a bite out of sweep's ratings, but it won't hurt in the end. SPN will be renewed.

ANd I managed to stay positive all day. Even with that result of 2.944 million thats up over the year ago broadcast of Supernatural's Fresh Blood. And thats without a single viewer in the largest market in the US. Thats not bloody bad. And we continue so far every week to have a larger audience then the year ago results.

Not a thing to feel bad about, mswood. Interesting to lurk around the fandom. Half think it's shocking that Sam and Ruby did the deed, the other half are like, "big freakin' deal. He screwed her. So what?"

Here are 3 sneak peeks from next week's ep at TV addict. I think I'm going to enjoy the 2nd part of the two parter much more than the first. I can understand why it's Matt from TV Guide's hot pick of the week for next week. Not of the night--the week. :techman: Check out Castiel's cool move on Sam in the first clip.

Count me amongst the "big freaking deal" group. I kind of figured those two would hook up eventually back in season three. Decent episode though, probably would have been a great one if Katie Cassidy had still been playing Ruby. But Cortese was, for the most part, better here than she's been in her other appearances this season.

And yeah, TWOP's forums are freaking terrible. I don't understand why so many people post there. I couldn't deal with it, and I was only lurking there. :p

Some of the TWOPsters are offended that Pam grabbed Sam's ass in the preview clip and teased him that she could "bounce a nicked off it." She was checking to make sure it was Sam since she's blind now. They objectify the two male leads worse than any guy ogling a chick does, but they were offended. I'm sorry. I barely post over there; I'm still pissed off that I can get banned for breathing wrong. :shifty:

I liked Katie Cassidy much better, too. It's not the storyline. It's definitely the actress that's the problem. That was pretty sad watching Sam begging the CRD to trade places with Dean. He didn't want any time. He just wanted to trade places to stop Dean's suffering. :( The big confession of what happened while he was in hell comes this week. That should be the choice moment.
