Personally, I think it's gone on five seasons too long. I had hopes of a new infusion of ideas when they introduced the Men of Letters concept, but that really went nowhere except to give the show a few standing sets, probably to save money.

I think that is why the producers were hoping for a spin-off. The writing is probably on the wall over at The CW.

I thought they already announced this was the last season? That S8-10 was a pre-planned storyline with a definitive ending?

That's my thought too. I used to be a huge fan of the show until the whole soulless Sam thing, realized how repetitive it was and stopped watching. The characters are just shells of what they were at this point and I can't believe they dragging the horse along.

I think it's time to let it go. These past couple of seasons have been better than the sixth and seventh ones, but the show's still a shadow of itself and probably should have ended with Season Five, as Kripke intended. Ideally I'd like to see this season get 24 episodes to break Smallville's record and then ride off into the sunset.

In retrospect, it probably should have ended with season five. The individual episodes are still enjoyable, but the plot-arcs have lost their gravitas.

No decision's been made yet. All the actors have expressed their willingness to go beyond season 10. I don't think they should. The show is way too repetitive. How many angel wars do we need or Sam and Dean at odds constantly? Ten's a nice even number so just end it there.

I'm not sure I can think of any TV show that ought to last ten years, let alone more. I'd think even eight or nine seasons of "Gaith Dates Supermodels and Fights Crime" would be enough... :p

I'll support the show and the actors for as long as they can pump out episodes. I watch it for the characters, not the story.

I like to pretend that Supernatural has only five seasons. It was pretty much perfect as it was when Swan Song's credits started rolling, even with that mild cliffhanger with Sam reappearing.

In all honesty I would imagine that the show would be more fondly remembered at this point if it would have ended there. Also it would most likely gather more audience post-mortem as a story that has a beginning, middle and end. Now... well, no one likes a show that is driven to the ground like this. The mythology is already in shambles and the constant brotherly angst feels like beating a horse that has been dead for five years.
