Supernatural: Season One

Never watched an episode until BB had the DVD seasons on sale for $20. Picked up season 1 and by the end of the weekend had all four seasons. Watching the shows in four hour blocks really improves the feel of the show. The writers really create a great universe for Dean and Sam to play in. Not that I ever want to live there though.

I'm very proud of the fact that I own every season of Supernatural released so far and not a single season of Smallville.

Well, I didn't think Bugs was that bad, really....

Well I will join you. There are elements to Bugs that I quite enjoyed. Mainly the Interactions between Sam and Dean concerning their Dad. It should for the first time a little of Dean's view of what happened between John and Sam. Also loved them being mistaken for a couple (something that would actually happen). And liked the kid and the native american just seeing right through Dean.

But the A plot was weak, and not scary (though the actors would disagree) and the production didn't pull it off.

I think Route 666 is far, far worse.

My brother dragged me kicking and screaming into watching the show (horror is generally not my thing), and it wasn't until the last two episodes of the first season before I was hooked. From that point on, it's been my "TV crack" ever since.

Those were all the things I liked, funny.

I'm not going to watch Route 666 this time around. I'd rather not remind myself of that "horror" of an episode.

You'll love the episode right before 666, called "Faith." I'm very interested to hear your thoughts on "Home" and "Asylum," the two eppies following "Bugs."

Yeah Home was the episode where I really thought the show had potential. It's not perfect by any means and suffers from Home crappy casting in the "Family in jeopardy", but even with that its the episode that said I better start watching it. And with Asylum, faith and Nightmares, it became appointment tv for me.

God that episode sucks. In fact four and half years later its Route 666 or a third season episode (that have blocked from my mind) as SN at its very worst.

I am blocking everything from that episode, except for Jared's ass. And I will thank everyone for not bringing up an other aspect of that episode.

Personally on its merits I think its worse then Route 66 but seeing Dean's panic attack at the beginning and the already mentioned ass move it up to just equally awful.

I find it very interesting to find this thread. I recently bought season one after catching a few of the previous season's episodes and not really knowing what was going on. So far, so good. Then again, I'm not that far in.

Ran out of stuff to watch... going back to supernatural. I watched Asylum back in October, don't really remember liking it.

Scarecrow - like a little X-Files reunion here. Longtime director Kim Manners, a little William B. Davis, a John Shiban teleplay. I liked it overall, even if it does seem a little muted. It was just a couple of notches away from actually being scary.

I still have problems with Dean. He's just... annoying. I understand the need for conflict, but he's just hard to sympathize with. I just don't see why he treats his father like a general.

This Meg character is interesting. I can't wait to see what's up with that.

I guess John treated Dean more like a soldier than a son and Dean just adapted in the situation while he was growing up.

At the time Meg really was the turning point for me and that was pretty much my exact initial reaction. Yeah, what's up with that?! I want to know more!

I thought Faith was pretty good, even though they figured out what was going on way too easily.

Nightmare was pretty good. I enjoyed having enough time in the episode to try and figure out what was actually causing the deaths.

I just recently got into the show. After the fantastic seasons 3 and 4, I'm now headed back to start from scratch at season 1.

I don't get the absolute loathing associated with either Route 666 or Bugs. They weren't the best stories around, but they were hardly unwatchable and they still have some good character moments and interaction -- which is the whole point of what makes the show as good as it is. Even when Supernatural isn't at its best, it's still better than most of the crap out there.

Benders - one of my favorites so far. I wish they hadn't given away the fact that these were just humans right in the middle of the episode, though. Would have made for a nice twist near the end.

Shadow - sloppy pacing, and everything just felt subdued again. It's like there's great show waiting to jump out and hit the ground running, but most of the episodes leave me wanting more. I'm going to finish out the season though.
