Supernatural renewed for season 7

The CW just announced early renewals of five shows for next season. Ready?

Gossip Girl, Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries and 90210 are all coming back, along with a first-ever all-star edition of America’s Next Top Model.

All will return next fall. None are huge surprises — Vampire Diaries is the network’s biggest hit, Gossip and 90210 are solid-ish and Friday’s Supernatural has helped keep the network strong on TV’s toughest night.

This was expected, but it's good to have it confirmed.

I can understand why CW renewed it but does Supernatural really have anything left to tell. I hate it when shows overstay their welcome--writers are out of ideas and the show feels like a shell of its former self.

^ Shocking...

Anyway, I'm ecstatic about this news! Just keep up the quality writing, and all will be well!

Back when Season 5 was going, I wanted them to end it there because that's where the creator wanted to end it, but after seeing Season 6 turn out to be pretty decent for the most part, I'm up for another. :techman:

The renewal was a foregone conclusion, anyway. No way was the CW going to let go of both Smallville and Supernatural at the same time.

I'm a little surprised, since those involved in the show seemed ready to move on a while ago, but I'm happy about it. It's still one of my favorites. :bolian:

With that news should someone start a poll on which brother will end up stuck in Purgatory at the end of the season.

sweet SPN is renewed, now just please renew Nikita and im cool with CW. i thought i wasnt gonna like Niki but it is up there with Alias season 1

According to SyFy, there are rumors that Castiel will be written out of the 7th season. But there's no confirmation yet.

I gave up on Supernatural at the start of the sixth season. It really felt like they'd told the story. Scouring of the Shire all over again.

Yeah the seasons have become predictable--a Big Bad, brother angst, a comedy episodes, very little plot advancement until the last few episodes where they cram a ton of stuff in a meager few episodes all with a save from some macguffin like rings or ash and with one brother dead or seemingly dead. I can't see what else they can milk out of it that they haven't.

you must still have a thing for supernatural... Otherwise You'd have given up on all the supernatural threads like i have that stupid smallville winter thread that won't go away.

I didn't want them to do a sixth season. I was on record as being vehemently against it, but I've been pleasantly surprised. The characters still resonate, and that's all I can ask. Note of interest, the maniacal creative genius that is Ben Edlund, writer of many of SPN's very best episodes, will be directing his first. Or has directed. The episode airs a week from Friday.

And neither Dean nor Sam will be sent to purgatory. ;)

@Hey Lt. Trull little suggestion for you, don't like the Smallville hiatus thread? Don't post in it. We use it as a general news thread for "Smallville" instead of cluttering the board with every little bit of news that crops up.

As for "Supernatural" being renewed, not surprised either. I thought the series had a satisfying ending after season five and started to watch season six but then just lost interest. CW will most likely use it as their flagship series now that "Smallville" is ending.

What the fuck?

This. :bolian:

No, it hasn't been. It's been outperformed by the Friday shows in terms of total viewers, but there's really nothing to take its place that'll do much better.
